I try to avoid wearing heels to work as my feet suffer in the evening, and so tend to always wear flats. I'm quite tall so I get away with them with trousers or a skirt without looking stumpy. I had a cheap black pair of pumps in my wardrobe that I decided to throw out a couple of months ago as they were showing their age and cheapness. My husband moaned at me to get a better pair, from a better quality shop so since I don't have a lot of time to shop on the high street and looked online and found these Clarks Henderson Fun Flats, which are currently half price on the Clarks website. I paid full price!
My Henderson Fun shoes are completely black so are slightly different from the picture above, but it was black that I wanted so they would go with everything, particular with black tights and black trousers, which I wear a lot of to work. I did like the fact that there is a small heel, not making them uncomfortable to wear or make me feel I am towering over people, but just enough to help you feel stylish and elegant. I also liked the fact that there is a lovely buckle on the toe part of the shoe which adds that touch of elegance and style that my old plain black pumps didn't have.
Like most Clarks shoes these are leather shoes so you are buying quality. The sides of the shoes have a punched look with tiny little holes which again add to the style of these shoes. It also has a Clarks Active Air cushioning layer under your foot - now I have had other CLarks shoes with this Active Air in them and I knew that it made them very comfortable to wear, especially for extended periods of time, so it caught my eye as well.
When I first got these shoes I wore them with socks around the house to get my feet used to them so I could wear them with thin tights, but to be honest, I'm not sure that I really needed to, as they have never rubbed against my ankle or caused any discomfort and in general they are simply a nice fitting, comfortable shoe that you could easily forget that you are wearing as they are very very comfortable, making them an ideal work shoe.
All in all, my husband wanted me to get a good quality shoe and I did and I haven't any regrets. They fit like a glove and I could easily wear them all day without any discomfort. They are stylish and elegant which makes them look dressy, and they are perfect for wearing with my trousers or skirt for work.
I bought these shoes in the cream and brown pictured and also another pair in a rust leather brown colour from the Clarks shoe range sold at Brantano shoe shop. There are several reasons why these make the perfect shoe for me and I am pleased to have found them.
The name of the shoe is "Henderson fun" which suggests a weekend kind of casual but smart shoe. They are pretty low with a small heel and a neat buckle feature on the toe. I am a bit limited when it comes to footwear as I have size 8-9 feet and tend to be leaning towards a 9 these day. The shoes are perforated which makes them nice for summer as my mum would say, they let your feet breathe! Inside the shoe is a liner with the Clarks logo and 'active air' printed on it. The linings do come out but stay in the shoe well. The shoes are made from leather and are excellent quality. Underneath, the sole is printed with a lovely flower pattern (I think it's an orchid) and there is also a small studded plate that looks like brass with the clarks logo next to the shoe size, the plate really looks like a sign of quality. Brantano are excellent for catering for ladies with the larger foot so I always shop there when I need new shoes. I was after some interview shoes (more news on that later!) and got a plain black pair of Hush Puppies but also snapped up two pairs of these when I saw them.
The shoes have proven to be a great buy. They just rubbed a little at first on one of my joints but they seemed to 'give' a little after a while and are my first choice now when I am going out and about. In addition to the sheer fact that they do a size nine, the shoes are comfy and neat to look at and most people are amazed when I say what size my feet are (not that I try to 'shoehorn' it in to the conversation much) so they do a good job of disguising what could look like large boats at the hem of my trousers.
I do have bad feet so have to be careful with the style of shoe I wear. I tend to stick to flats as I have a clicky ankle when I wear heels and think that may be my body telling me no. I am also tall so don't need the extra height of a shoe. The only thing that niggles me on these shoes is the slight ringing noise made by the buckle on the toes. It's not that noticeable but in a quiet room you can hear it! The cream and brown shoes do remind me of a bowling shoe a bit but they do look really nice with black trousers and the brown shoes go well with jeans.
You should expect to pay around £50 for the Henderson Fun. That's what I paid for the cream and brown pair but I fell upon a bargain with the brown ones and got them in the sale for £25. If I ever see any more in the sale I will snap them up.
I love these shoes (can you tell?) and think they are suitable for all ages (I'm mid 30s), they don't look old fashioned on but they are smart and will go with a lot of different outfits. I do think they look best with a pair of pop socks but I do wear the brown ones with bare feet when I'm wearing jeans as I think I look like a crazy lady when I wear them with normal patterned socks! Most importantly they are comfortable and easy to wear and care for. I am totally converted now to paying a little more for shoes for the added comfort and longevity, no more cheap shoes as they don't do your feet any favours. I could walk miles in these happily and I think that really is the true sign of a good shoe.
