Advantages: great sales assistant, great shoes, great fun

Disadvantages: none

I went into Clarks with my sister in law and my nephew for his first pair of shoes recently.

Just wanted to share what a great experience it was for all of us even though it wasn't my child!

The store was lovely and child friendly with big poofs to sit on and music playing in the background. It was a weekday so quite quiet and a lady approached us after a minute or two and spoke to all of us including my 1 year old nephew who gurgled back!

She asked if we needed and help and my sister in law said we were there for Rowans first shoes. Sales assistant sprang into action leaving no awkward silence and said "ok 1 sec, i'll get the gauge so i can measure him up" - nice and casual but very friendly.
Returned swiftly with the measure and asked us to sit him on the poof or on our knee whichever he wanted and proceeded to measure him quickly and efficiently causing minimal fussing from him!

She said he was "measuring a 4G, nice chubby feet!" which made us laugh. She then asked if he was walking which we replied yed to and she pointed out around 16 pairs of shoes suitable for him. A great choice I think! We chose 3 pairs we liked and she went to get them from the stockroom.

She had 2 of the pairs we liked but not the other so had brought a suitable alternative, her manner with rowan was lovely and he was soon giggling away as she tickled his feet.

Chose the shoes following her advice about the fit and were getting up to pay when she said she'd do his photo as part of the 'First Shoe experience' which we thought was great.

She brought out the polaroid camera and a prize draw entry form to fill in and took his pic, the picture as put in a little cardboard frame with the date and his name on.
We also were given a book about growing feet and how to care for them. And a little folded card called a foot record which she recorded his size and the date in and told us to bring it with us when we came for his next pair ALL FOR FREE.

Most of the First shoes were around £28 and the First Trainers were around £24 so I thought this was really good value especially when you know they fit his feet properly.

Was a really great experience and made it special for all of us!

Well done Clarks.

Summary: A really fun half hour, enjoyed by all

Our experience with Clarks has been just as good, even with a fussy 2 1/2 year old!
