Advantages: good, quality shoes, excellent service
Disadvantages: quite expensive
For me, Clarks is the only place to buy children shoes. All of my eldest sons shoes were bought in here when he was younger, and my second son is on his second pair of shoes from there at the moment.
I have peace of mind that his feet are measured correctly and that shoes are fitted properly to. They use a 6 point check to make sure that the shoes fit your childs feet perfectly and in my experience they talk you through this as they are doing it.
Their shoes come in half and whole sizes and a range of width fittings.
They make shoes for every stage of a childs life-
Crawling- Shoes that they offer for this stage are lightweight with flexible material. They are smooth and seamfree inside the shoes to prevent rubbing. It is recommended that you leave shoes off completely until your baby is walking properly. This is so their feet are able to grow naturally and to allow their bones to grow into a natural shape. I chose not to use any shoes on either of mine until they were walking properly. I felt there was no need for them to be wearing them.
Cruising- Shoes for this stage have flexible soles. This is to allow the child to be able to feel the floor when walking, this helps with their sense of balance.
Walking- Shoes for this stage have flexible soles and are padded around the ankles for extra support.
Pre-school- These shoes have additional padding as feet are a lot more active now. Shoes are flexible in the front but more structured in the back for support.
School age- The heel is shaped for a good fit. Strong and long lasting materials are used as children are really active now.
All shoes allow for growing room and so when my youngest had gone up by half a size, i found that the shoes he had were still comfortable and didn't rub.
All shoes are made with leather and breathable and soft materials.
I find these shoes are quite expensive especially as you don't know how long they will wear them for as you never know how quick your childs feet are going to grow. Both pairs of shoes that i have bought my youngest from Clarks have cost £30 each. However i am happy to pay extra knowing that my sons feet are being looked after properly. Correctly fitted shoes will hopefully prevent any health problems regarding their feet in later life.
The shoes are very strong and hardwearing and the only reason the needed replacing was because he had outgrown them.
They have quite a choice of shoes, although at crawling and cruising stages the choice is slightly more restricted. They sell trainers and trainers with lights, normal shoes, boots, doodles and school shoes.
I have never purchased shoes from Clarks for myself and so i am unable to to comment on the adult shoes. I never pay a lot for my shoes and always go to cheaper shops for mine.
Overall i am very impressed with the service and the quality of this shop. The staff are always very friendly and very patient with the children. When you take them for their very first pair of shoes they take a photo as a keepsake for you of your child in their new shoes.
Summary: a worthwhile investment for your children
