Disadvantages: get dirty quickly

When it comes to fashion, I like to make sure I wear things a little more individual than other people. Being a fashion student makes standing out a big thing especially when fashion is something you love. Despite not being American and loving all things english, I couldn't help but fall in love with these when I saw them online a long time ago.

Converse are a shoe made for sports, but over the years they have ended up being purely for fashion and this is where they will remain. Closely linked with the 'skater' or 'preppy' stereo-type, but loved by many more people and can be styled in so many ways.

The Hi-Tops are the most popular shoes from Converse. The fit to just above the ankle and are made of canvas with a lace up front. The toe has a semi-circle of rubber over the top with a white sided rubber base and grey bottom. They have many replica shoes out in the market now but none quite beat the originals. All convese shoes have the converse logo printed on the inside of each shoe at the ankle. I love the design of these and how you can tell from a distance the brand they are. All Hi-Tops are a different colour, some patterned and some just plain. I chose these American flag ones due to being different and at the time they were on sale. The stripes of the flag are around the shoe and the tongue is blue starred. Its quite distressed and I have frayed mine a little more to give a bit of a rugged look, but without they are still lovely. I think converse did well to style it this way and not just print the flag on the shoe how it appears, creativity has gone into this and worked in their favour.

One of my only problems with this shoe is the colour, because it gets so dirty so quickly. Although, I tend to try and keep mine for days when it isn't raining so they stay nicer for longer. To clean them is quite simple though, they can just go in the washing machine on a low temperature - but be warned they take a long time to dry afterwards.

When it comes to wearing the shoe, they are ridiculously comfortable. I find canvas shoes to be the nicest for wearing along with military boots. They just fit so nicely and it feels like you're wearing slippers. I never wear these and get uncomfortable. I tend to wear them with jeans or leggings and a loose fitting top. They are more of a casual shoe rather than a style shoe to be worn in the evenings but still gorgeous!

Size wise, they are pretty good. I am a size 5 and fit perfectly into this size shoe from Converse. I hate when you have to go up or down a size, it makes ordering online so much harder! They fit really nicely and you can easily wear thin socks or none to be comfortable.

These cost me £30 in an online sale from Schuh quite a while ago, but I think you can still buy them from any Converse stockist. I would really recommend them, such a comfortable casual shoe! I don't think I can fault them really because they seem to be still lasting well, comfortable and my favourite shoe!

Summary: american flags can look good on shoes!
