Crocs Cozycrocs Bootie
Advantages: Warm, comfy, wide fit
Disadvantages: None for most
I can't buy any 'normal' footwear from shoe shops. I often wear trainers although even these aren't easy to buy. This is, owing to nerve/muscle damage. I have shoes specially made but with very limited success and so, although many find Crocs ugly, to me they are a good discovery.
Crocs don't by any means solve my problems; I can't wear them for long and they aren't, for me, completely comfortable; nothing is, not even slippers, but they do give me a choice of footwear for a short time other than wearing trainers.
I first started to wear Crocs clogs in the summer. They are especially useful when I holiday abroad in hot climates. I now have quite a collection and think I might be addicted to collecting them. But, naturally, these are pretty much useless when wearing out in a British winter as they offer little protection from the elements.
I'm not bothered about being unable to wear high heeled shoes, although a pair of pumps would be nice. I don't care about not being able to keep on a pair of flip-flops; never liked the feel of the plastic in between my toes anyway. But what I do most undoubtedly miss is a pair of snug boots in the winter. Oh, to slip my poor old feet into a pair of comfy boots which give me some support as well as warm toes.
I had a look on Amazon for Croc boots and came across "Cozycrocs Bootie Pull on Boots" from a few sellers.
I decided to order through Amazon, along with another purchase of a pair of Crocs lined shoes but the boots were dispatched from and sold by a company called ShrubsDirect. This is, in fact, a plant nursery. When the parcel arrived the plastic packaging stated "Open immediately and water" I thought this might spoil my boots so didn't obey!
These boots are available in two colours which are black and in brown. I liked them both but thought that black would go with more of my clothes than the brown. They were priced at £45 which means the purchase was quite a gamble for me as most footwear for me isn't wearable. I knew I could send them back but delivery was £8 and so, if I got the size wrong, which can easily happen with Crocs, as the different styles have a different fit, this would prove expensive. Even to return them and have another pair sent out would cost extra in postage alone. But then again, if the boots did fit, and I could wear them, even if only for a short period of time, such as to take the dog out for a quick walk around the block, they would be worth double, even treble the money, to me.
I took the risk and ordered the boots through Amazon Marketplace with another pair of Crocs sold by Amazon. The boots took a few days longer than the other order, in fact I was just about to contact Amazon to see if there was a problem with my order but then saw that they were due to be dispatched.
The boots came and I thought they looked good. I don't think they look unless closely inspected, like Crocs footwear. They are nice and wide and have a wide tow box. Crocs come in standard, relaxed and roomy fit with roomy being the widest. These boots are a roomy fit.
*Customers are advised by Crocs if needing a half size shoe/boot to order up to the next largest whole size.
The boot just looks like any low heeled comfy slip on boot. The sides and base are of a black suede effect and the upper parts are a knitted black and white fleck. The boot collar is rimmed with black faux fur.
Inside the boots is further faux fur lining. The sole is 'Croslite'TM and non-marking.
Getting the boot on for me is not easy; there is no zip and with my considerable foot problems it takes some effort and time. They are much easier to remove. The boots are difficult to fit into because the uppers are stiff and difficult to manoeuvre my feet into but I do not think this would be a problem with other would-be purchasers. However, I got them on and once on they are comfortable. They actually feel rather luxurious with the soft fur effect lining.
I honestly believe that for anyone with 'normal' feet, wide feet or slight to moderate foot problems, these would, in most cases, be ideal. I don't think they would be difficult to put on for women with wide feet, only those with a very high instep would need to wriggle into this footwear.
Although these are winter boots I would personally hesitate to wear them in wet weather as I find the plastic Crocs sole to be slippery on wet ground, even though they have a deep tread. I think this could just be a further problem for me as Crocs are worn around swimming pools, and by surgeons and other medical staff in operating theatres, so I would think most must feel steady, balanced and safe when wearing them. I want to wear them for short walks, or when out and about visiting friends, and for simply nipping into the car (as a passenger).
Anyone considering purchasing these boots should be aware that they are generously lined and so they may want to consider choosing a larger size than normal. I didn't do this but wish I had purely for ease of getting into them; I could have bought an insole/sock to line them if the larger size had been too big. But, if your feet aren't too troublesome then be aware that the lining makes them a snug fit although this will flatten down after a while giving more room inside the boot.
I am hoping that the boots will be easier to get on after a little more wear. As I've tried to explain my foot problems are considerable and complex; for most people these boots should prove easy to slip on and off and be warm and comfortable.
