Disadvantages: er ugly
I was a bit late jumping on the Crocs bandwagon. After flirting with mock-crocs (for garden use only if you please), it wasn't until this Summer that I invested in these branded crocs. Though still reserved for home and beach use and ne'er to be worn on the school run - I still think they are strangely ugly shoes, I can't deny that they are strangely comfortable and practical for my needs. I think too, that the branded crocs are much better than the imitations and I would recommend these particular shoes.
I paid £19.80 from amazon for my size 39 (UK 6) unisex pair of branded crocs, and have them in the blue with a white band and red striped as opposed to the black pair pictured above, mainly as they were the cheapest of the colours available when I bought them but also as, like the rest of the UK I embraced the red, white and blue thing this Summer and thought they were a discrete choice. In my normal size they are a good fit, though not particularly over roomy (I initially bought a smaller size expecting them to be too big and had to send them back). They are, I have to admit, comfortable as soon as you wear them. The plastic, albeit made in china, is of a better quality than the non-branded shoes. They have little ridges in the sole that mould to your feet over time. I like the fact also for garden use that there are no holes in the side of this style which are quite shoe-like, as opposed to sandal-like I suppose. They don't let in mud or water particularly. They also seem to be pretty indestructible and always come up like new after a quick rinse after a spot of running around with the kids in the quagmire known as our lawn or a spot of rock pooling. Most people will know that crocs can be worn with the band forward or swivelled to the front of the shoe - I favour a bit of both, either way they stay well on my feet and I find the ridged soles pretty well non slip.
So, overall then pretty good shoes and definitely far better than cheaper imitations which somehow seem smellier, of the kind of plastic that just isn't as pleasant on your tootsies . I still don't really like to wear them out and about or find them an attractive thing to wear but I can't deny that I wouldn't be without a pair and having bought "proper" crocs once I'll never be bothering with the pretend ones again. Recommended.
Summary: my beach and garden shoe of choice
