      Very helpful

      A brilliant pair of shoes.

      Deichmann Graceland Low Court Shoe

I have never found it easy to find comfortable but fashionable shoes. My feet are wide and chunky and rather square. My daughters have inherited the same foot shape too, which made their childhood rather difficult and necessitated trips to purchase Start-rite shoes which came in wider sizes. As an older adult I have actually found buying shoes rather easy, and it was totally by accident that I discovered a range of shoes that I never thought would be a choice for me.

We have a store in Chelmsford called Deichmann, which on first look seems to be one of those "stack them high, help yourself to boxes and try on with enthusiasm" type places. Normally I would avoid them knowing full well that they were catering for the average lady, and certainly I don't fit into this category with my wide and square shaped tootsies! However, if you have wide feet there is nothing worse than the humiliation of a traditional shoe shop where you ask for the other shoe, and an assistant hovers over you while you try to push your foot into a new, but slightly too narrow, shoe. For this reason I ventured into Deichmanns one wet afternoon a few years ago in search of footwear, and I have never looked back. The reason is because they stock a range called Graceland, and I fit every style and every shoe in my size without exception- it's like shoe heaven and even better- the prices are fantastic!

The company is German and in 2010 they sold 152 million pairs of shoes worldwide - in 22 countries. At the height of fashion, but also with a passion for high quality production, I really love this company. Every pair of shoes and boots that I have purchased to date have been absolutely fantastic value for money .

My Latest Purchase- The Low Court Shoe
So the latest purchase to join my collection is what they describe as The Low Court Shoe. I spotted these because I normally veer towards flat styles in spring and autumn, but fancied a change to a slight heel. In actual fact I love high heels, but they aren't practical for most of my daily activities, so I saw these and thought they were the perfect alternative. Their heel is only 1.6cm but it is enough to raise you up just a tad, and I find it puts a spring in my step and seems to be slightly more forgiving on my back. Totally flat shoes can make my back ache by the end of the day on occasions so I thought these would be a good alternative.

Deichmann have an excellent website at www.deichmann.com, and they also offer a mail order service. These shoes retail for £14.99 which represents excellent value for money in my opinion. The colour of these shoes is a dusky brown, and of course for the price these are not leather. Actually this suits me as I am vegetarian, but you have to be careful when choosing man made fabrics as some can cause or add to foot odour. I haven't found any problems at all with these shoes in this respect, but I do spray all my shoes once a week with a shoe deodorant to keep them fresh.

The shoes themselves are so versatile in that the muted brown seems to go with everything from jeans to leggings, and on the rare occasions I wear a skirt they have matched well too. They have an attractive ruffle trim across the front which makes them look really pretty. You can actually purchase these for a special occasion too as they look stylish and elegant but are also comfortable.

The point I would make here about sizing is unusual for Graceland in that the pair I have came up really big. I almost walked out of the shop as I couldn't see my usual size 39, but in desperation I tried on the 38 and it fitted perfectly. I decided to purchase as being a slip on style these shoes should be a snug fit to begin with, and I have found them to be absolutely perfect with no slippage problems. This is the first time I have had to downsize with Graceland, but I would say try on at your leisure within the store. The boxes are arranged in a structured fashion. The shoe style is displayed on the top shelf, and then the sizes go down vertically underneath in boxes that are lined up below. No one ever bothers you in my local store, and I can make absolutely sure that the shoes fit perfectly before taking the box to the checkout for payment.

I am very heavy on shoes and put them through their paces. Previous Graceland shoes have served me very well indeed, and I can see these are going to be no exception. I have been wearing them now for more than a month and they look brand new still. I find them to be high quality and well made, and for the cost they are outstanding.

What I love about this range within the Deichmann chain is that I can afford to make several purchases through the year for everyday wear. They are economical as well as fashionable, and with the wide feet being well catered for I can shop with confidence.

I am so glad that I went into the store that wet afternoon several years ago. We have several shoe stores that resemble this one in my home town, all are self service but this one stands out. It marries affordability with comfort and doesn't neglect to be fashionable. I am so pleased with my latest purchase. I have worn them all day everyday with no sign of blisters or discomfort- they fit like a glove. Well worth £14.99 in my opinion!
