      Tough boots

As a subsidiary of Black & Decker, DeWalt are one of the world's leading manufacturers of power tools and safety equipment - today i'm taking a look at their 'Apprentice boots', which can currently be purchased for £46.40 from Amazon. The boots are primarily made from honey nubuck leather, and feature a steel toe cap with impact protection up to two hundred Joules. The boot's soles have a decent amount of grip, and are heat protected to three hundred degrees C. As work boots go, these particular ones look fairly good - they're quite simple in appearance, and there's nothing too objectionable about them.

      Comfort Levels
      - - - - - - - - - -
Available in sizes 6-13, the Boots are comfortable to wear, and the sides and areas around the ankle offer a good amount of padding. If I have a criticism, it's the very back - there isn't much give in the material, and you can feel it slightly pressing into the back of your ankle when you walk - a softer edge would have solved this issue. In terms of the weight, the Apprentice boots are moderately heavy, but that's to be expected for safety footwear of this nature.

On the pair that I own, the leather has remained waterproof, even though I haven't used any sort of leather treatment on them - there are also a number of scrapes, scratches, and grooves on the leather's surface, but i'm still kept nice and dry. The innersole is fairly soft, but I would recommend getting an additional pair to put over the top, as it will really make a difference to the comfort levels when you've been on your feet all day. Although the DeWalt's are pleasing enough on the eye, I normally don't like the look of work boots, so I have the bottom of my jeans going over the sides, therefore creating the appearance of a normal shoe look to the unwitting bystander. This look is possible because the boots aren't especially bulky, which is why I prefer this particular variant to many of the other safety boots on the market.

      Final Analysis
      - - - - - - - - -
DeWalt Apprentice boots are reasonably priced and effective safety shoes which have become popular in the construction industry over the last few years. I mentioned earlier about the back of the boot being noticeable on the back of the ankle when you walk - but it doesn't rub or cause blisters, so it's not a big complaint. Overall then, due to the fact that they provide a generally good level of comfort and don't look too bad, I can happily award these DeWalt Boots four dooyoo stars.
