Advantages: design, price, quality, comfort
Disadvantages: lining a little bit on the thin side
There are a few variations of Disney's Cars Wellies available but for the purpose of this review, I will be discussing the wellies that Asda sell!
These wellies are Disney and Cars branded. Those who are aware of this film will know that the main star is called Lightning McQueen. These wellies are red wellies which feature printed designs. Around the top of the wellies, a black flag is present with '1st to the finish! Lightning McQueen' printed on each boot. The other design is around the toe area and illustrates Lightning McQueen himself. The Disney marking is also present.
The upper area and outer soul of these wellies are made from other materials whilst the lining and sock are of a textile material. These wellies are available in infant sizes 4 - 12.
~Price and Availability~
These wellies can be found in the childrens shoe section in the George department at Asda. They are also available online from www.asda.com. These wellies are priced at £8.00 per pair.
Last year my son had a pair of regular Asda wellies and they lasted really well. When it came to purchasing new wellies this year, his Nana said she would treat him so he decided to go for a more expensive pair. Asda offer quite a few different pairs of wellies but he settled on Cars as the red design matched his new Fireman Sam hat, scarf and glove set! Although he has never seen any of the Cars films, he did like the design of these wellies.
My son has been a size 11 for quite a while but I noticed that 11's were getting a little snug so we opted for the largest size in this range - a 12. The range of sizes on offer is really good for infants. My son is four and a half and these are the perfect design for his age group. The wellies simply come secured together with a tag. These have been well used by my son - almost daily. He is still growing into them slightly as he seemed to be between sizes when we bought them so I would imagine these lasting us until next year unless his feet take a huge stretch.
Wellies are always needed in Scotland for rain and of course, for snow. My son likes to wear these wellies most days for the journey to nursery (before changing into his gutties), when out shopping or when we go walks. Design wise, these wellies are fab. The red is bright and they stand out. The material is glossy and flexible yet supportive which is exactly what my clumsy son needs from footwear. These wellies can accommodate wider feet types or narrow (by adding thicker socks). My son can put these on himself and there are no issues with him sliding his feet and legs in with no help from his Mummy or Daddy. He wears thick socks to pad the wellies out a little until his feet grow a bit more.
My son loves the design of the wellies and so do I! The printed part is done well and hasn't scratched or faded. The Lightning McQueen design on the toe area is so cool and is raised to be more noticeable. It looks smashing when peeping out from underneath a pair of jeans or joggy bottoms and makes the wellies look more unique than a plain pair. The design looks like Lightning McQueen too so fans will not be disappointed! His eyes have became a little scuffed but nothing major.
Depending on wet it is outside will depend on how much of these wellies my son has on show. If it is really wet, I prefer to tuck his trousers into the top of the wellies and this can be done comfortably. This also fills up the wellies a bit better and shows off the full design of the wellies. If it is just cold outside and perhaps has been raining previously, my son has his trousers are full length down the side of the wellies with only Lightning McQueen peeping out. They don't look bulky under most of this trousers but sometimes it can be a tight fit with jeans.
My son finds these comfortable to wear and always requests these over the top of his trainers (even when it is dry outside)! His feet remaining warm and dry despite the lining of the wellies being quite thin compared to other wellies my son has owned. The sole of these wellies is quite thick and supportive yet perfectly flexible. Placing my hand inside the wellies, the sole feels quite spongy but not overly soft. The grippers on the bottom of the wellies are well arranged and my son has yet to slip despite it being quite icy recently. The pavements in our town centre are always slippy when wet and Boo can walk easily without any mishaps.
My son enjoys wearing these wellies and has never complained about them being sore or uncomfortable to wear. They stay on his feet well too. Any dirt can be wiped off with a baby wipe but one thing that cannot be removed is pen! One rare morning, silly Mummy forgot to put his gutties in his bag for nursery so he had to wear his wellies in the nursery. The nursery teacher had to apologise at the end of the session as one of the other children had gotten a hold of a pen and drawn on one of the boots. I can't get the mark off so any advice welcome!
For £8.00, I feel like these offer value for money. They are well made and other than a minor few scratches, these wellies are still in excellent condition and well loved by my son. They perform well at their intended purpose of keeping my sons feet and the bottom of his legs dry and warm whilst being comfortable to wear. If I have to criticise, I would say the lining is possibly a little thinner than I would prefer especially given how cold it is going to be this Winter - extra socks!
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: well worth £8.00
