“ Brand: Dune / Type: Boots „
It doesn't take much for me to buy a pair of shoes or boots but it is even better when those shoes or boots are bought for me (of course from my hint!). My partner and I's anniversary was back in November and we always tend to buy eachother the same sort of thing he likes aftershave I like footwear. I usually send him a few links to shoes as suggestions and he tends to do the same in Boots hinting which aftershave he likes.
My one suggestion happened to be a pair of boots from Dune called Milton D. I had seen them on their website and been quite taken with them so they went on my wish list. I already have a pair of riding style boots from Dune which I bought a few years ago and they are still in fantastic condition and I had wanted a pair of tan riding boots for a while and these happened to catch my eye.
According to Dune:
"Indulge in some equestrian chic with this classic riding boot with zip. Wear with a smart blazer and neck tie and dark denim jeans this season"
Milton D are classed as riding boots but of course you cannot ride in them, well you could but wouldn't be comfortable nor supportive! They do come in black, tan or dark brown in crocodile effect. I had opted for the tan version and it is a lovely deep, rich Newmarket tan. The boots are now in Dune's sale and have been reduced to around £85.00 depending on the colour you opt for but of course being a sale item sizes are now limited.
The boots are technically flat yet they do have a slight heel which is around 3cm in height which is neither here or there. The sole does not have a grip on at all and is incredibly smooth and black in colour. The sole looks and is incredibly tough and durable and seems a lot harder than a rubber sole. On shiny or slippy surfaces these won't be the most practical!
The boots themselves are leather and you can tell easily especially with the tan boots as the leather differs slightly (albeit very lightly) in texture and tone. There is a long zip up at the back which goes right down to the ankle which makes them easy to get on and off. At the top of the zip there is a little press stud and piece of leather which protects the zip when done up. The inside of the boots have a black lining and just at the heel you can see the 'Dune' woven logo.
My pair of boots come just below my knee when on and I do unfortunately find them a bit loose around my leg yet around the ankle they are quite snug which isn't a major problem as the leather does give a little with wear but those with bigger ankles may struggle or at least find them quite uncomfortable until the leather stretches with wear. Due to the shape of the boots at the front they are slightly on the narrow side due to being slender but again when the leather gives a little they are more comfortable.
The only downside apart from the fact that they gape slightly around my legs is that the zip at the back is slightly stiff and can be a bit too stiff around the heel. According to a few friends who also have these boots they have also had the same problem. Now, I bought mine via the website so didn't try them on in store, had I of I probably wouldn't have bought them as they do gape and the zips can be a little dodgy, it almost seems that they haven't been stitched properly.
Overall, I love the look of these boots. A tall elegant pair of leather riding boots which look well made and from decent materials which of course seems to warrant a high price tag. But for me personally I don't like the fact that are a bit too loose around my leg yet snug on the ankle. No doubt there are a lot of people who have bought them and been perfectly happy with them but for me I like them but don't love them and don't wear them as often as I thought I would.
