I first came across Ecco shoes about 10 years ago. I was out shopping looking for a pair of shoes to take in holiday with me to America. I wanted shoes that I would be able to walk in comfort. As we were going to Arizona I also wanted shoes that would keep my feet cool. I found myself drawn to a section in the shoe shop devoted to Ecco shoes. There wasn't a huge amount of choice and the shoes on offer were what many would describe as sensible shoes. The sales assistant told me that Ecco were simply the most comfortable shoes you could buy. I decided to try on a pair of rather clumpy looking sandals. Slipping my feet into the moulded foot bed I immediately knew these sandals would be coming with me to the States!

All that was 10 years ago and my love affair with Ecco shoes has remained constant. Before I tell you about the shoes let me tell you a bit about the company.

Ecco was founded in 1963 in Denmark. Today Ecco employs over 13,000 people and has over 3,00 shops worldwide. Ecco is committed to producing a high quality product and only uses the best quality hides to make its shoes and sandals. Ecco uses environmentally friendly processes and has a policy to ensure the lowest possible consumption of resources and amounts of waste. Ecco never uses any banned chemicals and has decided not to use others on the harmful list either.

Ecco makes shoes for men, women and children, and for all seasons. As I have already said my first pair of Ecco shoes were actually sandals. They were made of soft brown leather and had a Velcro fastening strap. When I got them home I could tell my husband wasn't that impressed. They looked clumpy and wouldn't have won any prizes for their beauty. However they were so comfortable I wore them everywhere. I loved the non-slip sole and even wore them in the rain! They were very light and easy to pack to. Once in America I wore them every day and felt as if I were walking on air. The temperature was in the 100's and my sandals really helped to keep my feet cool. I walked for miles and my feet didn't hurt once!

My sandals actually lasted for 10 years! In the end the soles started to show signs of wear by splitting. I have just bought my second pair of sandals. The design is very similar but the new pair has been updated a bit. They now have a more pointed toe area, but the comfort element is the same. The foot bed has more ridges too so my feet feel like they are being massaged when I walk.

Last winter I bought myself a pair of Ecco shoes. They are made of soft leather and mould to my feet perfectly. They lace up and again have that sensible look my grandmother would approve of! They look a bit like a pair of Edwardian short boots and I love them! I think they look great with skirts as well as my jeans. The most important thing is that even when I wear them all day they still feel really comfortable.

Ecco shoes are designed to last. They are made from top quality materials and designed for the ultimate in comfort. My new sandals have straps that fasten with Velcro. The straps are slightly stretchy so will fit ant foot shape. Ecco shoes have cushioned soles for added foot protection.

Ecco shoes can be difficult to find and when you do find a stockist they may only carry a limited range. They are available to buy on line but I always like to try shoes on before I buy.

Ecco shoes are not cheap and I paid just over £50 for my latest pair of sandals. However if they last for 10 years I think that is excellent value!

I like Ecco too, my sandals are 4 years old, and the bottoms have just started disintegrating - I was most upset!

Excellent. I truly believe with foot wear you get what you pay for. I still have leather Rohan shoes Ive had for the last 7 yeas and they're only about to give up now; £58 well spent! This is another company to check out as it sounds as if they know how to produce long lasting quality footwear.

High initial outlay, but if they last that long, it sounds worth it!
