Emu Australia Women's Stinger Lo Boot
Advantages: warm, comfortable, excellent quality
I've had my Emu Stinger Lo boots for around a year now. I wore them all last winter and just recently they have been brought back out as the weather has started to become much cooler.
For years I would buy very cheap versions of these sort of boots, from places such as Primark and New Look, but they would only ever last a couple of months before the soles wore down or they began letting in water. I decided to spend a bit more on a good quality pair in the hope that they would last. I was toying between Emu and Ugg boots, but eventually decided on the Emu ones as not only were they the cheaper of the two options, but they were being sold by QVC, who have a 30 day, no questions, money back guarantee. I thought at least that way if I found I didn't like them I could send them back.
The boots come in seven different colours - chestnut, mushroom, grey, black, chocolate, cobalt and berry, a pinkish red colour. I toyed between chestnut - a mid brown and mushroom which is a lighter brown, before deciding on the chestnut as I felt they would be more forgiving when it came to stains.
My boots arrived along with a spare pair of insoles which was the offer at the time. I had expected that I would have needed to replace the insoles by now, but after a year I am still using the original ones, as they are still fluffy and hardly worn.
The first thing I noticed about the boots was that they had quite a bit of weight to them. They were certainly heavier than the cheap pairs I was used to - not in a over the top way - but the soles, which are rubber, are quite thick, which is where the weight comes from.
The boots are made from water resistant sheepskin, which is both warm and keeps your feet dry. The warmth factor was my main reason behind the purchase, my feet get unbearably cold in winter, so although these sorts of boots are not particularly attractive, the warmth factor makes up for it in my opinion. They have also shown absolutely no signs of letting in water and the soles - which are textured with the emu logo - have virtually no signs of wear, which is amazing considering how often I have worn them.
Another thing I love about these boots is that they have a reinforced heel, with an extra piece of material, so the backs of them don't collapse - a problem I've frequently had with cheaper versions. They are double stitched too, so all the seams are strong.
They are available in sizes 3-8. I wear size 5 and have found them to be true to size.
These boots are not cheap, but you can get a better deal on them if you shop around. The Emu website is currently charging £150, as mentioned I bought mine from QVC, where they are currently selling at £138, although I'm sure I paid closer to £120.
Overall, I'm very pleased with these boots and think they were a good investment. I am impressed with how well they have worn, they are comfortable to walk in, very warm and keep my feet dry, so they get a big thumbs up from me.
Summary: Good quality and long lasting
