~ Tesco F&F Floral Flip Flops ~
I have bought several pairs of 'toe-post' style flip-flops in the past and find that the post between my toes can really cause some discomfort, particularly when I am wearing the flip-flops on a hot day or if I am lucky enough to be away somewhere warm. I have tried buying both cheaper and more expensive types of toe-post flip-flops as I initially thought that the cheap material of lower-priced flip-flops was the problem, but after spending the best part of £30 on one particular pair and finding this common problem was still an issue, I have long ago discarded the notion that 'dearer is best' and tend to find that it's more down to pot luck than the price of the shoes!
I recently noticed a possible solution to the uncomfortable 'rubbing' that is often experienced as a result of hard or robust materials used in toe-post flip flops, from the "Tesco F&F Floral Flip Flops." I paid only £4 for my pair of flip flops a few months back, which were available in a choice of three colours if I remember correctly. I selected a dark blue option as I thought they would be the most versatile.
The main difference between these particular flip flops and others that I own was to be found in the material used to form the V-Shaped, 'thong-style' strap across the top of the flip-flops that meets in the middle to form the 'toe post.' Whilst some other flip flops will have this V-shaped strap made from plastic or other hard materials, the F&F version have a 'fabric' strap which is obviously much softer in comparison.
A little delicate detail can be found in the strap's printed design, which comprises of a navy blue background with small flowers in assorted colours printed over the top. This printed fabric also forms a sort of 'border' around the outside of the flip flops' sole, which softens the look of them slightly. The printed fabric is plaited at the top and this is what forms the V-shaped strap which keeps the shoe on the foot. The plaited design adds an attractive detail and when compared to other flip flops that I wear regularly, the F&F version are really quite pretty and look quite delicate on the feet.
The sole of the flip flops is not particularly thick, but I have found this is the case with many other types of flip flop style shoes that I already own, and for the price I paid I don't have any complaints, however it is fair to say that I would not wear these shoes if I had any sort of long distance to walk. The inside of the sole is covered with a delicate 'rattan' type fabric that is quite attractive and surprisingly hard-wearing - or so it would seem - as there is very little in the way of damage to this covering, even after several months of wear. I was slightly cautious about the rattan covering at first, wondering if it would cause uncomfortable rubbing to the soles of my feet, but thankfully this hasn't been the case at all, even when they have been worn in warm weather.
The outside sole is covered in a soft foamy rubber-like material which allows for a slightly 'cushioned' sole, although not overly so. There is a little grip to be found from this sole and I have not experienced any problem with the flip flops becoming slippy, even when worn on polished or wooden floors.
The sole is quite light and this adds to the already 'lightweight' feel and design of the flip flops overall. They are of course quite thin, as is the case with most other brands of flip flops too, and I find this makes them absolutely ideal for travelling or holidays due to them taking up very little room - and weight - in the suitcase... Always a bonus nowadays, with such strict limitations on luggage allowances with many airlines.
There are three sizes available in the Floral flip flops and these are Size 3 - 4, Size 5 - 6 and Size 7 - 8, although I don't remember ever seeing the smallest size in store. I have the size 5-6 and these are quite neat on my size 6 feet, although they do fit. To be honest I would have preferred the flip flops to be slightly more 'roomy' and would have selected a size 6 - 7, had there been one available. This is mainly because my feet can become slightly swollen in hot or humid weather, but the size I have has been fine for wearing at home.
As @ August 2012, the F&F Floral Flip Flops can be purchased within the clothing department in larger Tesco stores, or you can purchase the shoes online - in a choice of two shades, including the blue pair that I have - at www.tesco.com for the sum of £4 plus postage charges.
In summary, I am very pleased with my purchase and have happily worn my flip flops over the past few months. I find they are surprisingly robust given the value price tag and am considering purchasing a second pair to put away for next spring/summer due to them being so comfortable - it's been quite a while since I've had such a comfortable pair of flip flops, and the design on this pair means they are quite versatile too... top marks from me!
Summary: I'd recommend these flip flops and find them more comfortable than other pairs..
