As a waitress, I have quite a big range of black shoes as I need to wear them everyday. I bought these shoes from the F&F range af Tesco for £8, which I was pretty happy with. I have been pleasantly surprised by these shoes. As I am on my feet so much in my job, most shoes that I purchase in this price range tend to fall apart after a few weeks. These shoes have lasted me around 6 months so far and still look good.
The sole of the shoe is relatively thick considering the cost of the shoes, and the rest of the shoe is made of a canvas-like material which is really comfortable and molds well to the shape of your feet. The strap across the top of the foot is adjustable and keeps the shoe firmly in place. The only criticism I have for the shoes is that although the material makes the shoes very comfortable, I have found it isn't the most practical material. They are very absorbant so soak up the rain quickly. I found this left a rather unpleasant damp smell on the shoe when they dried but I remedied this with a shoe odor eliminator. I wouldn't really recommend this shoe for people intending on using them in the outdoors frequently as they aren't the most weather-durable. If, however, like me you intend to use them almost solely (excuse the pun) indoors, I think they will serve you well. A good shoe for a good price!
** Please note- the shoes I am actually reviewing are the "Tesco F&F Jersey Mary Jane Pumps" which are not the same as the floral pumps this listing was originally created for. Dooyoo have asked me to submit my review here, but they have helpfully changed the picture to show my own pair..**
~ TESCO F&F JERSEY MARY JANE PUMPS ~
I own several pairs of flat shoes in the "Mary Jane" style which basically consists of a fabric strap across the front of the shoe, usually secured by a buckle at the side. I have two black pairs and have worn both pairs for the past few months. This review discusses my experiences of the Tesco F&F Jersey version.
The shoes are still available to buy online at www.tesco.com, and are part of the F&F brand that they own. They are still available at their original price which is £8, and postage costs apply if purchasing the shoes online. I have recently seen them for sale in a local branch of Tesco too, with plenty of sizing choices still available at the present time (August 2012).
Online, there are more limited sizes available to choose from but I believe the shoes were originally available from a UK size 3 right up to UK size 8. The price for the shoes is the same, irrespective of what size is purchased.
The shoes are black, including the strap although there is a pleasant contrast offered by way of the patterned interior lining which appears on the sole and up the sides of the inside of the shoes. This pattern is a black and white 'checked' fabric upon which there are pink flowers complete with some green leaves. The interior of the shoes is quite attractive I suppose, although nobody sees it when the shoes are being worn, obviously.
The outer shoes are made of black 'canvas' type material, although this is described as being "jersey fabric" by Tesco which I believe is much the same thing as canvas. The material used is very soft and so this makes the shoes rather comfortable to wear. The toes are rounded and I find they are quite 'generous' in terms of sizing, so there is ample room for my toes without my feet feeling at all crushed.
The shoes' straps fasten with a square-shaped buckle at the side and this has proven to be robust enough to withstand ample wear and tear throughout the past few months, even with regular wear. I have not noticed the buckles becoming loose or anything, and they have allowed for a secure 'grip' of the fabric straps to be maintained, without any loosening or weakening being observed. The buckle is simple to use as it has the usual little 'prong' in the centre which is quite easily pushed through the canvas strap on the shoe.
The canvas material of the F&F Mary Jane Jersey Pumps has proven to be quite robust, and the shoes have suffered nothing in the way of scuff-marks or unsightly 'rubbing' on the material, even though I have been wearing the shoes for a few months now. This makes the purchase price seem like great value as far as I am concerned, and the shoes have surprised me in terms of how long they have lasted. I had quite expected them to fall apart after a couple of weeks of wear but this has not been the case at all.
The shoes are of course not water proof, as is the case with any other pairs of shoes that I have that are made of canvas or fabric materials. I have been caught out once or twice with sudden showers whilst wearing the shoes and although they have not suffered much in the way of damage, it is fair to say that they took quite a while to dry out properly. There is no advice given with the shoes as to whether they would be suitable for being washed but certainly I wouldn't have thought they were able to withstand this.
The soles of the shoes are very flat, as you would expect with any shoes that are described as being 'pumps' and I find them very comfortable for walking in. That is not to say that I generally walk very far as I suffer from mobility problems and distance is an issue. To be fair though, the shoes are more comfortable than other pairs that I own and are usually my first choice when selecting a pair of flat, canvas shoes for this reason. Likewise, I have not suffered from any slips on polished or wooden flooring, so I think the outer sole provides an ample grip for my own purposes and requirements. The outer sole feels slightly 'cushioned' and so this adds to the overall comfort of the shoes.
The shoes are quite lightweight, so they were the ideal addition to my suitcase when I enjoyed a break away recently. The light, canvas material allowed the shoes to be squashed down in my case and they took up hardly any room this way. I actually liked these shoes so much that I bought another pair which have been put away with the rest of my holiday clothes as I really think they will be the perfect choice when I next holiday over in Spain.
I have nothing negative to report about the Tesco F&F Jersey Mary Jane Pumps and they have been worth each and every penny of their £8 price tag. It would have been nice if Tesco had offered a selection of colours instead of just plain black, as I would have most definitely purchased them in a variety of colours and shades. They are comfortable, good value and surprisingly robust....... Full marks from me, together with my full recommendation.
The past few weeks I have been busy wearing two sets of floral pumps I picked up in Quality Seconds a while back at only £2.00 a pair whilst they were on offer. Sadly though I've lived in them so much that both pairs have practically fell off my feet which meant I was on the look out for something similar and at a good price.
I always buy clothing and footwear and the likes in supermarkets, in with my weekly shop so I can mess about with my budget! I find the quality and styles of things usually very good indeed and at £8.00 a pair these caught my eye big time and I simply thought they looked a bit unusual and unique really.
In sizes 3-9 instore (and with only sizes 3 and 4 available on the Tesco Direct website (www.tescodirect.com) at the moment these are only available in one colour and in a floral design as far as I am aware of and that is the same as at the top of this review page.
With an all over pattern of light pink and darker pink small flowers plus greenery over a light cream cotton looking hardish base there is a small strap that goes from one side of the foot to the other with a small silver buckle on it with four small holes so you can adjust the fit to suit yourself. Rounded toed and slightly higher backed heels these are soft on the inside and a matching cream coloured material is inside the shoe to the base of all it and trimmed with cream ribbing around the foot and on the outside of the floral buckle. These have a light beige rubbery and flexible sole with lines and grooves on it to give grip when your walking.
These are a cool to wear shoe, comfy enough though not padded or cushioned inside. I find these fine for walking short distances and they look great and are wipe clean though because they are not cushioned they can stress the feet out slightly if going long distances.
Versatile and well made though just very plain in the comfort department but ok!
Only available in Tesco stores or from the Tesco Direct website.
