“ Brand: Fat Face / Type: Sandals „
I bought these sandals for my daughter back in April, if you remember we had that mini heatwave and during the warm weather she was due to go on a weekend school trip. They helpfully sent a checklist home as it was an activity holiday and Alice would need all kinds of different clothing and footwear, one item was sandals for when they visited the beach.
She picked these out herself, at the time I was a bit wary as this style of very open sandal can be difficult to walk in to start with. Alice had the knack straight away though and managed to walk in them without kicking them off the end of her feet, as I'm sure I would if I wore something like this!
They have a cork sole, which makes them comfortable to walk in. Just by sliding my hand across the sandals I can feel that the sole is soft and smooth, but with enough resistance to make them feel substantial under your feet. They are nicely shaped to give a degree of support to the instep, but really are designed for children who do not seem to mind a very flat sole as much as adults tend to. Since Alice has been wearing them the cork has gradually moulded to the shape of her feet, which is another good thing about this material.
The cork sole is covered with a very pretty lining, the main colour being white but decorated with bright summer designs of hummingbirds and hibiscus flowers. I can't quite work out what the lining is made of, it has a suede appearance but is smoother to give a more generalised textile feel. My daughter said it kept her feet cool through the summer and it's obviously a good quality material because there is hardly any discolouration even though they were bought so many months ago.
The strap is a bright pink suede, the buckle isn't just there for decoration and does actually adjust the tightness of the sandals. There are only three settings so you're not going to be able to significantly change the size but it's handy if your child has narrower or wider feet than the sandals were made for. The middle setting has been fine for Alice, she's worn them on the tightest hole and doesn't like the way the strap pinches into the skin at the side of her feet.
The grips are very good on these sandals, and this was good news as it turned out to be a pebble beach that Alice went to and not a soft sandy one! She went rock pooling in them and said she didn't slip or slide off any of the rocks, they're quite a thick rubber with deep grips so are more practical for running around in than they look.
The sizes come a bit big, but most Fat Face shoes do and I've bought enough pairs from this brand to realise that. I bought Alice a size 3 even though she was only just going up into that size and they seemed huge, it's been a good thing though as now she's closer to being a size 4 and they still fit her perfectly!
