Advantages: Comfortable
Disadvantages: Bulky, pricey
Im on my second pair of fitflops. My second summer. To be honest if they did exctly what it said on the tin then I wouldnt need a second pair, would I?
FitFlops are Flipflops that alledgedly give you a gym workout as you walk.
How does this work?
Well, the toe section, for starters, is made firmer than usual shoes to enable the toe to push off at a faster speed.
The mid footbed is made intentionally unstable, forcing the muscles in the leg to work harder thus giving a workout.
The deep heel absorbs maximum shock impact.
FitFlops claim to improve posture, minimise back stress and firm and tone as you walk.People actually claim that they loose inches!
'Wearing FitFlop footwear has also been reported to provide relief from plantar fasciitis, heels spurs, chronic back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis, from lower limb oedema and RLS (restless leg syndrome)'
In my experience, having suffered with backpain for the past five years I can honestly say that these are the most comfortable footwear I have found and although some sites suggest against wearing them for long periods (due to the workout youre getting) I can wear these all day without so much as a back twinge or blister!
This wasnt my reason for acquiring my first pair. Id read about them and wanted to loose the inches claimed around my thigh and buttock area! So they went onto my birthday wish list last year and I was presented with the silver Walkstar. The neutral colour meant that they went with most of my wardrobe although I must say they arent really pretty. In fact they really are quite bulky looking but give my short frame that all important extra inch!
THe fitflop logo on the top of the shoe may also put people off but ive found that most people actually ask me what it says as it cant be read whilst youre wearing them (unless they get on their knees i guess?!)
I should mention here that I am a size 4 shoe but my fitlops are a size 5. THe straps on top of the footwear do not give at all so you should bear that in mind if purchasing.
The rubber type material they are made of makes them easy to clean but you do find that a build up of dirt fills the indented 'fitflop' logo in the shoe. Ive bought my fitflops their own cheap toothbrush to remedy this! (Mental note to self not to leave thisl ying on the sink lol)
A year later, bearing in mind that the fitflops are only worn in warm weather when I guess youd really attempt to wear flipflops, my silver walkstars were looking a bit worn on the thong and the circular silver fitflop logo on the top was really faded. Im guessing that the light colour is partly to blame for the look of them now. There is a note on them when you buy that you can wash on low in the machine but that this COULD impair them.
Now that my birthday rolled around again, and I have my new pair, I may put the silver ones in the machine and let you know how I get on.
I have the bronze now, and again the colour goes with alot of my wardrobe. In fact if anything they are less noticeable as fitflops in this colour.
Fiflops are more widely available than last year. Try Boots online or John Lewis and they cost £35 - £45.
To summarise, they cost more than the average Flipflop and are a little bulky but invaluable as a comfy pair of footwear and up til now (tuch wood) no more back pain.
Summary: Maybe not the biult-in-gym that they claim but comfy none-the-less

- 04/06/09 Great review, but I'm curious if you lost any inches or felt more toned in your legs. Never heard of these shoes, but they sound interesting! |
