George Basic Flip Flops
Advantages: Cheap but durable, fairly comfortable.
In the summer months (when the weather permits!) I like to wear sandals and flips flops and whilst I have never actually worn a pair of these basic flip flops for many years, I do wear flip flop-style sandals which are more sturdier and expensive than this style and can be found cheaply in most shoe retailer outlets.
I bought these particular basic flip flops in my local Asda just prior to going away on holiday abroad last month. The reason for my purchase being that I often suffer from swollen feet in the heat whilst abroad and although I take sandals with me, I usually find it is only a pair of flip flops that I can actually wear comfortably on my feet by the end of my holiday. Indeed I found last year that although I had taken three pairs of flip flop style sandals with me too, it was only one pair that I could actually wear because they had more give in the top part which goes around your foot and inbetween your toes.
Therefore, when I was looking at these in Asda they seemed to be quite light and soft fitting around the top part and I thought maybe these would be ok for wearing on the beach or around the pool should my feet become swollen. They looked as if they would be comfortable enough and easy to wear and of course the £2 price tag meant that if they turned out to be of little use to me then I hadn't really wasted any money.
I was pleased to see that these basic flip flops were also available in an aqua blue shade as I am not a lover of anything pink and would not have bought a pair if they were only available in this colour. Thankfully the aqua shade is a lovely pale blue/turquoise shade and after checking they had my size, I purchased a pair.
The sizes themselves are Small, Medium and Large instead of the usual footwear sizes and as I am a size 4 shoe, I tried both the small and medium sizes. The small size appears to be size 3-4 and the medium 5-6. The medium size was far too big and so I bought the small size. They appeared comfortable enough when trying them on in the shop, but not the most comfortable flip flop style shoe I have purchased. I couldn't imagine wearing these for a long period of time when walking for example, but flip flops are the type of footwear I need when my feet become swollen.
The flip flops are entirely synthetic as you would expect, made of 'other materials' as Asda describe them, however, I must say these appear to be of better quality than many flip flops similar to these which I have seen and for £2 they are quite a bargain for your hols.
Whilst away on holiday, I never wore these for the first few days, but then put them on when sitting around the pool late one afternoon for an hour when my feet were beginning to feel a little uncomfortable and found these were comfortable enough to wear.
Once into the second week of my holiday my feet began to swell during the later part of the day on a daily basis and once again I could only comfortably wear one of the other pairs of flip flop-style sandals I had taken with me. I tried these flip flops and thankfully I could still get them on my feet without the top part digging in and I wore these during the day quite a lot during my final week on holiday. I found them ideal for short walks or on the beach and around the pool and they are certainly durable, however, I couldn't walk in them for longer periods as the soles of my feet would begin to hurt and I found my other flip flop sandals which have a slightly cushioned sole to be more comfortable. Therefore I wouldn't recommend these flip flops for walking around shops or towns etc.
For the beach and pool or just wearing around the house and garden however, these basic flip flops are an absolute bargain buy. Mine are showing little sign of wear and tear and for just £2 per pair they are amazing value. I can recommend these as a must for your holidays and ideal just to pop in your case as they are so lightweight as well as a holiday essential. I am pleased I purchased a pair and am happy to recommend.
