George Basic Flip Flops
Advantages: Cheap summer sandals
Disadvantages: Bit slippy when wet
I love wearing funky sandals in the summer and showing them off, however I recently went diving in Croatia and was told to bring cheap, comfy and sensible sandals for walking on the rocky beaches each day and none of mine fitted the bill. So in a mad rush I went to Asda to pick up my last minute essentials and spotted these bargain-ous beauties on a hook and bought a pair.
The Basic Flip Flop
These flip flops are exactly as their name suggests, very basic, but functional. They are available in pale pink, pale blue and white; I opted for the blue pair. They are nice summer shades and look the part. The sandal has a flat and ribbed base, with a 'Y' plastic bar strap across the top. The bar is kept in place by being pushed through to the under sole of the sandal in all three parts with a larger plastic ring holding them underneath and flush to the sandal.
The sandals are made of a plastic / synthetic material which Asda describe as: Upper: Other Materials, Lining & Sock: Other Materials, Outer Sole: Other Materials, which is very descriptive! But what more can you ask for in basic flip flops. They are very flexible to the touch but strong enough to tell me that they will at least last one, long summer's use, when I get the chance to wear them some more. They are also very lightweight so are great for taking on your holidays with all the meagre baggage allowances you get.
Sizes available are small, medium and large and they only cost £2! About a quarter of the cost of your sun tan lotion.
Wear and Tear
The sandals are great to just slip on and off in a flash, as there are no buckles or laces to mess with. The base is soft and has a slight mottled surface against your foot which helps to hold them in place. The 'Y' strap is a smooth plastic on the inside and ribbed on the outer, this ensures that they don't chafe your foot while you walk and also gives them slightly more detail, though not very exciting. All in all they are pretty comfy and durable.
I have taken these on two holidays now and they are great for wearing to the beach because you can just slide them on and off easily and you don't get sand trapped anywhere in them. A quick rinse in water and they are as good as new too. The sole is also thick enough to absorb stones and the hot pavements that you get abroad, keeping your feet nice and protected. One drawback I found was that when my feet got wet / sweaty they tended to slide about a lot more than they should and were not very secure on my feet, but for £2 I am not going to hold this against them.
The sandals are so cheap you don't mind them getting a bit battered, unfortunately I have not had chance to experience them on the Scottish cobbles yet, but for price and comfort I am very impressed. They won't win any style awards but come highly recommended from me for your summer holidays.
Available at George stocking Asda stores!
Summary: I don't know what more you could want for £2!
