Advantages: Look fabulous, comfortable, hard wearing

Disadvantages: Small sizes

My three year old has never been the most die-hard Peppa Pig fan, but when I saw these Peppa Pig boots in the Asda sale for just £6 I had to buy them for her. The style of them is gorgeous so Peppa Pig lover or not, your toddler is guaranteed to look extremely cute in them!

They are a Converse style boot and have been designed to look trendy but feminine at the same time. Although these are a dark blue in colour, the pink trim and ribbon laces make them a definite girls' shoe to suit a wide range of ages. Hollie is currently midway between sizes 8 and 9 so she ended up with the bigger size as the 8 seemed a bit tight across her toes. This would make me say that the sizing is quite iffy with these boots, I'd usually buy her an 8 in this style and be sure they would fit with a little growing room.

The boots have a denim appearance and are bang on trend in this respect, they are not made of denim though and have a more comfortable softer texture. The raised embroidery and colourful motifs add another layer of femininity to them, but although the Peppa feature is quite big it is done in lovely pastel colours so as not to overwhelm the entire style of the shoe. Well, in my opinion most Peppa Pig shoes and clothing are made to advertise the Peppa Pig brand too garishly but these boots are definitely not over the top in their design.

The white rubber sole and toe still look nice and clean, they are attached securely to the fabric of the boot and up to now (two months of wear) none of the rubber trim has started peeling away from any part of them. Hollie isn't particularly heavy on her shoes, but these are standing the test of time well so far and still look brand new. I took a chance on machine washing them last week after a messy trip to the farm, a very low temperature and hardly any spin at all. They came out fine this time but I'm not sure I'd risk putting them in the Hotpoint too often.

The boots have a soft and comfortable inner, the bottom of the foot is cushioned well thanks to a thick spongy sole which means Hollie never complains about them pinching or rubbing. When they were brand new (and I mean the very first time Hollie tried them on) the back of the left boot rubbed her leg a bit but since then the fit has been fine. She wears socks or tights with them as the inner seams are quite rigid in places and I do worry that this aspect of the boots is what probably would cause rubbing if worn directly against the skin in the warmer weather.

The style of these Peppa Pig boots means they go just as nicely with a casual outfit as with something a bit more dressy. Actually, Hollie wore them to a party over Christmas with a flouncy Disney Princess dress and they looked fantastic. They also look good with tracksuit bottoms, although the grips aren't very good on the bottom of the boots so I wouldn't recommend them for particularly sporty occasions!

£6 from Asda.

Summary: A cute pair of boots for your toddler
