Advantages: well made, bright, lasts well
Disadvantages: sizing slightly on the small side
My daughter may be only three years old going on ten, but she knows what she wants, and refuses to wear anything she doesn't like. For this reason, I never just pick up things in the shop unless she's with me.
We needed some new wellies last winter, as she had outgrown her previous ones. We were having a wander around Asda when we spotted the Peppa Pig wellies; I knew they were going to be a hit as they had a combination of pink, blue and a large character Peppa on the side of the wellies.
Being from Asda they were also very reasonably priced at £7, so a bargain all round and everyone was happy.
What I liked about the wellies immediately was the thick sole. I know wellies are designed to be chunky for outdoor use, but these have a generous layer of heel rubber. They are also a decent size in the length department. There's nothing worse than buying children's wellies and they stop almost at their ankles. What's that all about?
The design on the wellies is predominantly feminine, but yet not covered in pink which is nice. Peppa is designed on the wellies to be on the outside of each boot. We use this as a learning tool to get the boots on the right feet. No matter how uncomfortable it must be, my daughter will happily run around with her wellies on the wrong feet and not complain about it.
The sizing of the wellies is fairly generous but perhaps not as large in size as some brands I have bought. I found I had to buy a size too large and they fit properly with perhaps a season's use out of them. I don't like to buy too big despite wearing thick socks with wellies as they can be quite uncomfortable for children if they slip all the time. The width seems to be of an average size however. My daughter is a width F from Clarks which is slightly above average, and we aren't squeezed into the boot, but yet not too much room either.
I am quite please with the inside of the wellies. Whilst there is no padding and nor would I expect any from a wellington boot, it is nice to be able to feel a slightly spongy layer in the base of the boot.
We have been through plenty of puddles and mud with the wellies, and despite having some chunky soles; I can just plonk these in the sink and give them a good wash with warm water. So far after one winter, the design hasn't cracked or peeled and still looks as vibrant as when I first bought them which is good as I will be able to pass them onto someone else when the time comes.
Overall I think you could do worse than buy your child's wellies from the George range at Asda.
Summary: a well priced winter boot for children
