Advantages: Great range of styles and colours, cheap, comfortable.
Disadvantages: Er... none!
I LOVE Havaianas. They are THE most comfortable flip flops in the world, and they're far more stylish than your average, run of the mill variety.
Havaianas were first made popular when big names such as Gisele Bunchen and other stars began wearing them. Interestingly though, the company first started producing footwear as early as 1907 when it created slip on sandals for the coffee workers in the company's native country of Brazil. The canvas shoes were then modified after the Japanese between the toe sandals, and the material was changed to rubber. THat way the shoes were comfortable and affordable. Export of the Havaiana flip flops started for real in 2000 and 2001 and have now reached fashion icon status around the world.
All that aside though - the real question is do they live up to the hype? My answer - YES! Havaianas, are cheap, comfortable, stylish, and I think they can be worn with pretty much everything. Because of the good quality rubber that's used the base on the flip flop really retains its 'bounciness' which means that, unlike other brands, you don't end up feeling like you're walking on concrete after the first couple of weeks. Although Havaianas are more expensive than your average flip flops, they really are worth it. I find that a pair last me at least 2 seasons, if not more. Shop around though if you decide you're going to get some because there are real differences in price - they can be found online for between 10 and 17 pounds per pair.
The great thing too is that they come in such a variety of styles and colours. Pretty much every colour in the rainbow is available in solid colours plus there are always new patterns and designs coming out (as the ones shown above). Personally I prefer the plain colours as I find these a bit classier. Go for a light bright colour for daywear or on the beach and a dark colour like black for casual evening outfits. Havaianas are easily packed away for summer holidays, can be worn on the beach, in the shower at swimming pools, or out to a casual lunch or dinner - endless possibilities! Really, get yourself a pair and you won't regret it!
