Stylish wellies no longer an oxymoron thanks to Hunter Regent!
Member Name: shopping_jem
Advantages: Sleek, stylish, great quality, great fit, comfortable, waterproof
Disadvantages: A bit dear; only fit slim calves
I purchased these Hunter Regent wellies in black after spending weeks researching which Hunters were right for me. I went for the Regent rather than the classic because the leg is slimmer on this style and I have slim calves. I chose the black, and although they are not described as "gloss" they do have more of a shine than non-gloss classic Hunters which looks fab.
The wellies come in a sturdy black box with Hunter logoing, and as soon as I took them out I knew they were fab! I had been unsure what size to buy because some reviews recommended buying a size up if you intendto wear them with thick socks. I am a size 4 (37) with normal to width fitting, and these in a 4 fit great with plenty of room for thick socks or welly liners. If anything, with normal socks they fit me as if they were a half size bigger than my usual boots.
On the leg, they fit much more closely than the Hunter Classics, so they are great if you prefer a less clumpy style or have slim calves. Because they are so sleek, I find that I wear them much more often than my old wellies, as they feel more similar to a normal boot. They are a bit of a pain to get off, but a boot remover does the trick (no more tricky than any other wellies, I might add) - or a strong companion! In fact, this did worry me when I first got them, as I was concerened about getting stuck, or damaging the wellies by pulling too hard, or even accidental welly tossing in a friend's hallway. With practice I have got used to removing them, and if you have any issues with manually pulling them off a welly remover makes it much easier.
The styling of the Regent is equestrian. As well as the slim fit across the calf, they do not have the buckle that the classic style does on the side. They feature the usual Hunter logo on the front, which is good quality and durable, and the sole is very sturdy and well made with good grips and a slight "heel" which I suppose would be good for stirrups if you are that way inclined! They are equally suited for city walking or muddy fields, and everything else inbetween. The inside of the wellies is a lovely soft slightly spongy material that is more comfortable than some lesser wellies. My feet also get much less cold in these than in non-Hunters because of their composition.
I have had these wellies for almost a year now, and they are excellent quality so far, and look almost as good as new. Considering the British climate, they have turned out to be one of most-worn pieces of footwear over this period. Oh yes, and they are completely waterproof.... as you might expect, but I have previously encountered leaky wellingtons and it is a very sorry experience indeed.
Overall, I would highly recommend these wellies, and they are best for a slim calf and sleek style. The Hunter website is great for giving tips on which wellies are right for you, so if you are unsure that might help (that was where I found out that this style is slim fitting) and they have all sorts of measurement charts on there to help you.
