Hunter Women's Short Gloss Wellington Boot
Advantages: Stylish, keep my toes dry, more comfortable than other wellies
Disadvantages: Can rub a bit, relatively expensive.
The wellies that I chose caught my attention in the shop window of Schuh. They were a glossy bright deep pink/purple colour - very eye-catching. I took an instant shine to them.
*~Why Hunter Wellies?~*
The market for 'fashion' wellies seems to have grown in recent years. For a long time, I associated wellies with jumping about in puddles as a child but now, alongside the popularity of music festivals, they seem to be a fashion item. An interesting range of colourful and fun wellies have emerged in recent years. So why would I chose Hunter wellies? Relatively speaking, I don't make much money and could do with saving my cash. Well, the reason I chose Hunter wellies is because of the reputation of the product. My mum keeps a horse and bought a pair second hand from a friend and said that they were a comfy pair of boots. I therefore thought it would be a good idea to go for something that would be comfortable. I bought them not long before going to the Download festival in June last year and they were quite possibly the best clothing purchase I made all summer.
Before Download 2010, I'd been to two festivals - T in the Park 2005 and Download 2008. With both festivals, we'd been very lucky with the weather. Both events were blessed with scorching sun. Not even Travis's rendition of 'Why does it always rain on me?' threatened wet weather at T in the Park. I even got a spot of sun stroke.
However, at Download 2010, we were not so lucky. On the last day, it not only rained - It POURED. A good hour on Sunday was spent wringing my converses out, changing my clothes and sticking on a poncho. In the mud bath that was the campsite and main arena, I'd never felt so blessed to have my pair of Hunter wellies. Then come late November and December, I ended up spending the good part of a month in long socks and wellington boots, as a result of all the snow. I couldn't say that my boots had not been tried and tested well.
*~So how did they fare?~*
The one thing I love about my wellies and could almost put before comfort is how brilliantly colourful they are. I got a lot of compliments wearing these boots at the Download festival. It was nice to have something that was practical yet fashionable - something that looked good but stopped me from getting my socks and trouser legs all muddy and wet. The hunter wellies are perfect for festivals. With the fashionable cut of the boot and a great range of colours and styles, even Kate Moss has been seen larking about in them at the Glastonbury VIP area.
However, are they comfortable? If I am to be completely honest, these boots were comfortable for only a few hours. After walking in them for a day, I found that they started rubbing a bit at the ankle. This was perhaps my own fault and could have been remedied with a good pair of long socks. However, a pair of long socks hadn't really come to mind in the middle of summer. I would therefore advise that anyone who buys these gets themselves a pair of nice long socks in spite of the heat (and particularly thick ones in winter, as your feet really can get cold in these boots).
*~Top of the range fashion wellies?~*
So would I recommend these boots? In terms of comfort, I'd definitely say that these boots are more comfortable than your usual pair of wellies. They don't rub as much and have a good heel (and ones you can ride horses in too). I don't wear these boots constantly I must say so when it comes to durability I am not the best authority on this. I have read a few reviews recently which suggest that the quality of the boots have gone downhill. However, I have only really worn these boots at particular times in the year - when I was at a 5 day festival, when it was snowing and the odd occasion when I remembered to wear them in the rain. Unlike my mum, I am not out mucking horses out every day and I'm not tilling fields on a farm. Nevertheless, still in great condition, I love my hunter wellies to pieces. They have been my saviour in times of excess moisture!
~Also available in a variety of different colours: Black, Citrine, Coral, Fuschia, Graphite, Cigar, Red~
