I really love the Hush Puppies brand of shoes: they are comfortable and stylish, despite a somewhat frumpy reputation, and within the last year one of their styles in particular has caught my eye. I have fallen in love with the design of the Noella court shoe and to date have four different pairs! I own the shoes in black patent, purple patent, red glitter and floral, and they are also available in red patent (which I haven't been able to track down for a while), black glitter and silver glitter.
***Style of the shoe***
The Noella design is marked by the rounded toe and curved 7cm heel, which is high enough to be smart but not so high that they are difficult to walk in. The heel being curved means that the shoes are ladylike and stylish but also easy to walk on, much more so than if the heel had been thin. They are also incredibly comfortable: I have never experienced any sort of irritation or rubbing when wearing these shoes, not even the burning sensation which most heeled shoes give me. The shoes feel slightly padded inside which no doubt adds to their comfort. The sole has an attractive design which adds to the grip of the shoes and makes them very easy to walk in.
The shoes are fastened by a thick ribbon, coloured to match the shoes, which ties into a bow. At first I was concerned that the ribbon tie would come undone or break but I needn't have worried: it is very strong and secure and has never once come undone, even when I have been walking around for a while. It is possible to tie the shoes tightly or to leave a little more room, depending on which you find more comfortable.
I will go on to discuss each pair that I own in more detail:
This is the pair shown in the Dooyoo picture and was actually the last pair I bought, from the Schuh website, with a 5% off voucher I got for reviewing another pair. These are basic black court shoes with a shiny patent finish and as such are extremely versatile, ideal to wear for work or during more formal occasions. A friend of mine posted some photos of a wedding on Facebook and all the bridesmaids were wearing purple dresses with these shoes. They have a bit of a vintage look and go well with dresses and skirts. The shoes are leather and as such are comfortable and hardwearing.
The purple shoes were the first pair that I bought, from the Schuh website when they were in the sale. I love purple and fell in love with the design of the shoes straight away. As with the black pair, they are made of leather, hardwearing with a shiny patent finish. While they don't go with so many clothes as the black pair, they are ideal for adding a splash of colour to outfits.
I already own a pair of red glitter shoes but wanted these ones too! I actually bought them as a consolation treat for myself after failing a job interview. They are real 'Dorothy' shoes, with red glitter spreading across the majority of the shoe with red patent edging. I wore them on New Years' Eve and they added a real sparkle to my outfit.
These are beautiful shoes, ideal for spring and summer, but I haven't had a chance to wear them much yet because the weather has been so dreadful! They are cream with a lovely coloured flower design. This pair would be ideal to wear at a summer wedding or indeed to any formal summer occasion. I am worried about getting them dirty so I only wear them when there is no chance of rain and mud!
***Price and Availability***
The shoes are usually priced at £60, which is a bit expensive but completely worth it in my opinion. They are well-made, comfortable and versatile and will last for ages. Sometimes it is possible to get them on sale or special offer: Debenhams and Schuh, where pairs can be purchased, often have special offers on and I got the purple pair from Schuh in the sale with one third off the original price.
As far as I can tell the red patent, purple patent and floral designs are no longer available, but the black patent shoes are still available at Schuh and I've seen the silver glitter pair on the Debenhams website. You might be able to track down a pair on eBay - I've had my eye out for a red patent pair for a while! Who knows, Hush Puppies might decide to bring out another pair in a different colour - they are obviously popular shoes.
I absolutely adore these shoes, which is self-evident as I own four pairs! They are comfortable yet beautiful, and the different designs are suitable for all occasions. Hush Puppies in general are a really underrated brand and I'd urge everyone to check them out: their shoes are so comfortable but many of their pairs are incredibly stylish.
