“ Brand: Hush Puppies / Type: Ankle Boots „
These Hush Puppies purpley ankle boots were sold to me in Schuh, the expensive shoe store on the High street. I was looking for a pair of proper purple ankle boots to wear with Jeans but came across these and decided to try them on.
The boot itself is made of lovely, soft leather, which is lined inside and padded for maximum comfort. I could clause the colour a maroon, not purple as they are most certainly not the purple I was looking for when I went shopping.
The style of boot is such that sock if worn should probably be black, not white as they sit quite low at the front. The detail on the boot is simple but stylish. The tops look like they have been turned over, however this detail remains the same colour as the rest of the boot. The "turned over" part appears to be held in place by a popper strap. In reality this is just for effect and the popper does not un-pop nor does the strap move.
The heel on the boot is black plastic and is approximately 3inches in height, a good height for work shoes, whilst the sole is made of rubber. This rubber sole has a lovely pattern imprinted onto it of flowers, a design which has barely worn away since I bought them back in 2008. Useless but a nice touch. I have found these boots very comfortable and suitable for all types of outfit. But (and there is always a but) I am very disappointed by the way they are made and the customer service of both Hush Puppies and Schuh when I complained.
Two days after buying these boots I drove 11 miles to work stepped from the car, walked 6 meters to the office, worked in the officer for 8 hours, took the 6 meters back to the car and drove the 11 miles home again. During this day the backs of my boots, just above the heel wore away to white material. I was devastated. I had paid £59.99 for the boots and 1 trip to work and back caused so much damage. I took the boots back to Schuh with my receipt and was told that the dye had worn away through excessive use and they were not prepared to do anything about it whatsoever.
So, after speaking to three managers (apparently) and two members of staff prior to that I left to write to Hush Puppies. Usefully they told me that the retailer should replace them, alternatively I could pay to send them to Hush Puppies where they would assess the damage, send them back and then I could take them back to Schuh.
Since this the backs have worn away quite badly and I purchased a pot of matching shoe polish to buff them up. I have to do this before wearing on each occasion and as the sides of both boots have also worn away so much I have to polish the whole thing. I also pointed out to the staff at Schuh that the soles were badly glued on and left a gap between sole and Schuh - again this was deemed my fault and they failed to acknowledge a manufacturer problem.
Interestingly the heel on these boots has not failed me nor has it needed replacing. This is unusual for a pair of boots when worn regularly.
Overall I like these ankle boots which is why I have persevered with them and the polish. I would have been further out of pocket had I sent them away to be looked at before being returned and then rejected again at the shop. They are comfortable, practical and look quite nice. The price wasn't too bad, though I would have expected a much higher quality from such a well known brand.
