“ Brand: KG by Kurt Geiger / Type: Wedge Shoes „
This year seems to be the year for a lot of people I know to get married. This is great as it means new shoes and new outfits and an excuse to really dress up and feel glam for a day - obviously not as glam as the bride! I don't need much of an excuse to buy shoes and now the new collections have already hit the shops I have gone a tad wild with shoe shopping!
When it comes to shoes I do like brand names as I feel you get more for your money but that doesn't mean I don't own shoes from say New Look and Topshop. Also I find with the more expensive shoes the designs a little more unusual and unique. My newest pair are definitely unusual to look at and are certainly quite striking in their design but they really do jazz up an outfit.
The shoes in question are called Hoshiko and are made by KG for Kurt Geiger (another collection owned by Kurt Geiger which is slightly less expensive than the main range). They come in champagne or red. I opted for the champagne as I preferred the colour and they would go with more of my outfits than the red.
What KG say:
"KG by Kurt Geiger Hoshiko is an eye catching style featuring contrasting satin upper and a super high glitter wedge. Finished with a quirky pointed toe, these will instantly inject fun and sparkle to any outfit as well as adding an edgy twist!"
Hoshiko are classed as an evening shoe and I have to agree with that description as they are certainly not the sort of shoe you would walk around town in during the day! They are ideal for evening wear and wearing to events such as a wedding, birthday event or christening.
What first attracted me to these shoes is the glittering wedge heel. It is un-missable and certainly striking to the eye. The glitter is a lovely silver colour which contrasts nicely against the champagne colour of the shoe. The whole wedge and platform is covered in glitter which has been stuck on and certainly doesn't flake off when you walk in them. So no glitter trails! So far I haven't seen a similar pair of shoes with the same sort of covered glitter wedge.
The other unusual part of the shoe is the pointed toe as you would generally expect a round toed shoe. The pointed toe is as you would expect a little tight around the front of your feet and unfortunately your toes are a little crushed but nothing painful or uncomfortable, there just isn't a lot of breathing room. These shoes are a little narrow around the sides and front of your feet so do take this into consideration when buying them.
The shoes are made from leather but they do have a satin finish which is nice and does add a little glamour to the shoes (as well as the glitter of course!). As I said the shoes are a little tight but once they have been worn a few times they do give a little but not too much so they don't gape at the sides. The sides of the shoes are a little lower than most shoes so your feet don't feel as secure as in others but the leather does stay tough enough for your feet to be kept in the shoe. The lining of the shoe is a darker shade of champagne which matches nicely with the main colour of the shoe together with the glitter. In the lining there is a little padding which provides a little comfort for your feet.
The wedge heel is approximately 120mm and because it is a wedge it doesn't make the overall height feel too high which is great. Wedge heels generally make the shoe quite comfortable to wear as the whole of your foot is supported. I find that the height of the heel is fine for me and I didn't have any problems walking in them. The platform obviously follows the shape of the sole and goes to a point with the toe but this doesn't make any difference when you walk in them.
I've worn my pair to a wedding so far and although they did rub initially around my heel this soon stopped once the leather had softened a little which didn't take long. I did buy them in store so I did have chance to try them on before buying and although I wasn't 110% sure on them because I liked the design and how unusual they were I ignored my initial worries and bought them anyway. What I didn't like was how little support the shoes actually gave your feet especially around the sides and the front of the shoe doesn't do very much either to keep your feet in. Once the leather softens they are a lot more comfortable to wear but obviously they don't make your feet feel anymore secure.
However, because they have a wedge heel they are quite easy to walk in and they are comfortable to wear, the padding in the lining provides a little bit of comfort. Because they are satin then it is best not to wear them in wet weather and because of the glitter wedge although not too delicate you still need to be careful when wearing them as the glitter can come off.
Overall, certainly a gorgeous pair of shoes to look at and definitely a pair of shoes I will be wearing to a number of events this year as I do think they add a nice feature to an outfit. But I do still have my reservations about them and unless you go in store, try them and absolutely love them then I wouldn't really recommend them unless you are happy paying their high price tag.
