Going on holiday with Mirabel

KG by Kurt Geiger Mirabel
Advantages: Reasonably priced and nice detail
In my KG Love review I mentioned that once we had booked our holiday I realised I had nothing to wear and shoes was my most important item (obviously!) to buy for the holiday. Because we are also going away this year I knew I would be able to get my monies worth and they would be worn quite a lot. The choice of flip flops is vast but during the winter months the choice drops considerably and I had to look in the sales.
When I found the Love flip flops on the Kurt Geiger website I also came across a pair of sandals called Mirabel. They are also made by KG for Kurt Geiger which is a range for Kurt Geiger slightly less expensive than the actual Kurt Geiger range.
What KG say about Mirabel:
"KG by Kurt Geiger Mirabel is a key wardrobe staple for SS10. A flat sandal with jewel embellishments to the instep makes Mirabel a perfect all day option. Team with a kaftan by day or a maxi dress by night, not to be seen without."
As you can see from the description they were brought out for the 2010 spring/ summer collection and were now in the sale. Mirabel comes in either black or white but I opted for the white as I thought it would go with more of my clothes and the black version looked a bit dull. They are classed as a casual shoe by KG but I think they are perfect for both day and night wear which makes them far more versatile than your average sandal. They are a thong style sandal which for me is fine as I find this style comfortable but I do know some people hate something between their toes. The thong part of the sandals is made of leather and is incredibly soft so it doesn't rub.
The detail for me is what really attracted me to Mirabel. The large golden/ bronzed plastic jewels really make the sandal glamorous. There are not too many of the jewels, only five on each sandal and they are sewn onto the leather straps. The jewels as you can see from the picture sit on the front of the shoe/ your foot. The jewels as I said are sewn into the leather but they are secure and are not loose even when worn for quite sometime, the cotton thread remains tight. The inside of the sandal is dark brown in colour which contrasts nicely with the white straps (more of an off white colour nearing to cream).
Mirabel have a slight gladiator feel to them due to the straps which go up the front of the foot, down the sides and around the heel. The straps are made from leather and are quite wide. When I first bought them and tried them on the leather was quite stiff but after I wore them for the first time the leather becomes a bit more flexible and softens up slightly but they don't fall out of shape which can sometimes happen to shoes made out of leather. The strap around the ankle is adjustable by a small gold buckle. Again, the leather does stretch slightly so you will probably find you won't use the same hole as you did the first time you wore them. I always wear mine slightly loose as when walking I don't want the leather strap too tight against my ankle as I don't want them to rub.
The sole of the shoes are perfectly flat with a very, very tiny heel. There is no padding to Mirabel whatsoever which is the norm for flip flops. The straps do give your foot a bit of support which is nice especially if you are wearing them for a long period of time but I did notice the arch of my foot did ache after a while and I think this is due to the flat sole but this soon passed once I had worn them a few times.
Mirabel are perfectly suited for an evening out as the jewels make them a little more glamorous but they also manage to jazz up any day time outfit. I found by having a few pairs of flip flops/ sandals that are suitable for both evening and day time wear I took up less space in my suitcase!
Mirabel are available in two colours as I said above and they can be purchased either online or in store at Kurt Geiger. They are now in the sale and cost £39.00 reduced from £69.00. They come in sizes 3 to 8 but sizes are selling incredibly quickly.
Overall, I think these are a great pair of sandals which I know will probably last me for quite sometime. As I am going on holiday again this year these will definitely be packed! Apart from the aching in the arch of my foot (which soon went) these are incredibly comfortable. The leather softens up just enough for them to be flexible and less rigid. The large jewels really make these sandals look a bit different and add a bit of bling to any outfit without being too over the top. I don't normally follow fashion by season and this wont change as I will be definitely wearing them this year and no doubt they will still be in my closet for next year!
Summary: A gorgeous pair of sandals suitable for summer
