There is a timeless quality to these Kurt Geiger Carvela high heel shoes and the pair I have still look as good as the day I bought them almost two years ago, sure the heel and sole have some wear on them but the actual shoes themselves still has that glossy look to them and the fact that I have a black pair means that they retain their usefulness and are not so subject to changes in fashion. I remember paying around the £80 mark for them which was an absolute bargain.
These are not the most comfortable of shoes to wear due to the narrow 6 inch heel on them that really raises the foot arches but that also means that my legs are wonderfully defined in these and as they are only for formal occasions it is not as though I wear them a lot. Within the Carvela range there is lots of choice so if that height of heel is too much you can find something to suit your own personal style. The shoe is nice and slim and very elegant with two cross over straps that slot through small matt silver buckles.
The build quality is excellent, they have a lovely glossy look, the heel is very strong and stable while dancing about in them. These are a very feminine shoe that always makes me feel attractive and desirable, the extra few inches it adds as well is another plus point and they are perfect with that little black dress that is a fashion staple.
The down side is the price, getting them for under a ton was a real plus as I have seen them retailing for over £125 in some department stores however you can occasionally catch a bargain like I did so it is well worth keeping your eyes peeled.
At Christmas time I had asked for high street vouchers as I had no idea what I wanted. One of the positives of having divorced parents is two sets of christmas presents so I was over the moon to have a fair stash of vouchers to hit the shops with. Heading straight to Debenhams I decided to treat myself to some gorgeous new heels and soon found some beeeeaaaauuutttiiifffuuull heals!
The shoes I found were called Glad by the Carvela range and were £85 originally but down to £50 in the sale. I could have kissed them, I had enough to buy two pairs! The shoes came in a few different colours but I opted for the pink colour which are quite bright but go with my favourite little black dress so well they could have been made for my dress! The shoes are a peep toe and made from satin material. I'm not normally a fan of satin especially in a shoe but these look so classy and for the price, as you would expect, not cheap at all.
The shoes do have a high heel, approx 4 inch, but the platform is also high so they are suprisingly comfortable, and also a key trend for the minute. To say they are so high they are really comfortable but also support te ankle and foot in all the right places that it should.
The shoes haven't to be honest had masses of use purely for the colour, but haven't marked or scuffed like I would have expected them to. They will be a pair of shoes that I'll be showing my daughter in 29 years, saying, I bought these when I was in my 20s and they are still going! Lol, I'll look like a train wreck but at least they'll be good quality!
I would definately recommend Carvela shoes by Kurt Geiger, and I would also recommend having a look online as they always seem to have some kind of sale online. The quality of the shoe is representative of what you'll pay. You get what you pay for as they say. For anyone out there with a shoe thing like me, there are some gorgeous heels for sale at the moment online from £130 to £49 called Grasp - definately adding them to my collection!
Thanks for reading!
I am lucky enough to own several pairs of Kurt Geiger Carvela shoes, which - had I paid full price for them - would have cost me a fortune!
Carvela is a range of shoes and boots from Kurt Geiger, a high-end high street store bordering on designer.
Carvela shoes are beautifully made and will make you stand out from the crowd - they look and feel expensive.
When you buy a pair of Carvela shoes, your experience begins when you open the tan and black cardoard box. Your shoes are packaged within tissue, usually with supports inside the shoe to ensure they hold their shape. If buying heels you will also find a spare pair of stiletto tips within the box.
Most of my Carvela shoes are very high heeled. The heels are beautifully moulded and strong. I can' imagine that they will ever break, despite a serious amount of wear, including dancing and standing for long periods - I even wore one pair to a 6 hour music festival!
Even with the killer heels, the comfort factor is surprisingly good. The insoles are tough but padded so your feet can survive several hours before starting to get achey!
I have always found the sizing of Carvela shoes to be accurate - i.e. you buy the size you are - don't go up or down.
If you buy Carvela from the Kurt Geiger website it can be expensive. However there are often discount codes floating around on the internet which will enable you to get big reductions - for weeks there was a code for £20 off a £50 spend - well worth having!
It's also worth noting that the website is excellent. There is a massive amount of choice online. They show you up front which sizes are in stock and they show several different angles on each pair of shoes.
Carvela also have very good sale reductions. I got my last pair for £22 - reduced from £85. I've also picked some up (new) off Amazon, with a massive 75% off.
I decided to have money for Christmas last year instead of gifts so I could take advantage of the sales afterwards. It seemed like the logical thing to do since most of the things I'd been given the year before were reduced after and the previous Boxing Day had also been rather tedious. There's only so much festive tv and mince pies I can take so I figured it would be a good excuse to escape for a while.
I'd already made up my mind to visit the mall in Cribbs Causeway which is not far from me because the weather was quite miserable and everything is under the one roof so I wouldn't have to traipse around in the cold on my hunt for bargains. I'm not normally a big fan of shopping especially when the shops are really busy so I thought this would also be a good time to have a good wander and look around since I imagined most people would be at home and wouldn't venture out on Boxing Day. Well I was completely wrong about that which was quite disappointing, it wasn't packed but it was pretty busy and full of bargain hunters like myself. I decided to make my shopping trip a brief one and just check out my usual favourites like John Lewis, Jane Norman and USC, all of which had nothing to tempt me.
After a good hour and a half of browsing I decided to give up and keep the cash back for a bit of online shopping at a later date but just before I started to make my way out I noticed the Kurt Geiger shop and was pleased to see the huge red reduced stickers all over the front of it. I hadn't thought about shoe shops before I spotted KG because I didn't particularly need a new pair of shoes since I'd purchased some rather nice shoe boots before Christmas. I've always been a fan of their shoes but they're normally on the expensive side so only really purchase them when they're on sale which seems to be quite often recently. I wandered into the store and immediately spotted about ten different pairs of shoes and boots that I liked. Finding a pair of shoes I like from Kurt Geiger is never a problem for me; in fact it's normally the opposite which quite often justifies me buying two pairs if they're on sale.
After a closer look at the pairs I'd originally noticed straight away I picked two out of the bunch that I knew I'd get the most wear out of. One pair were black/grey, biker style ankle boots and the other pair were long (knee length) lace up boots. Both were similar in terms of heel height and shape but after much deliberation I went with the knee length lace ups because they were reduced by more and the same price as the ankle boots so I told myself I was getting a better deal and more boot for my money.
STYLE & PRICE
The brown lace ups are actually from Carvela which is one of the many brands Kurt Geiger offer. The style name is Waggle and they were from the autumn/winter range 2009. As I said the boots are Knee length although they were described as calf length on the box and are pretty much flat and very similar to a military style boot but with less detailing. The toe and main part of the boot is dark, chocolate brown leather as is the heel which joins at either side to form a loop around the lower front part of the boot which holds a bronze style buckle. The upper part is made from contrasting, slightly darker brown suede with another strip of brown leather running over the seam at the back. The boots lace up all the way but this is just a design detail as the boots are zip up which is great, the look of a lace up style but without the hassle of having to lace and tie them when you wear them. There are also some nice bronze stud details to thread the laces through at the very top of the boots which is a nice touch. They were originally £170.00 but I grabbed them in the sale for £69.00 which was a nice saving.
COMFORT & DURABILTY
Comfort wise they've been absolutely fantastic, they fit well and offer support in all the right places. I don't have particularly narrow feet but I find I have plenty of room in them which makes them that little bit more comfortable. The top part of the boot fits snugly but isn't tight in any way which means I can get away with nice thick socks in the winter months. They also have a very soft brown lining which helps with extra warmth and feels nice against legs too. Since I bought them at the end of last year I've had a lot of wear out of them. They tend to match with most clothes due to the colour and I've worn them under and over jeans and also with skirts/dresses so they're a pretty versatile boot that I've worn a lot in both the winter and summer. They've stayed in great condition considering all the wear they've had, the leather has stayed quite new looking and even now doesn't look very scratched or scuffed. The suede is still pretty much perfect and hasn't faded at all and the soles and heels still look brand new when I've cleaned them, there really are no major signs of wear. The zips have also been fine unlike zipped boots I've had in the past that have been hard to pull up or were prone to getting stuck.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM?
I would highly recommend Kurt Geiger and Carvela shoes and boots and would also recommend the waggle boots if they were still available (I have seen them on ebay). Their boots are slightly higher priced than a lot of the other shoe shops with similar offerings such as Dune or Faith but there really is no comparison in the quality. I'm incredibly pleased with how much wear I've had out of these and other KG and Carvela shoes and boots I've purchased in the past. I know they were reduced but I would have been equally as happy if I'd paid full price for them. As I mentioned above there always seems to be a sale on at KG online whenever I go to have a look at the new styles and there have been some really substantial savings to be had on some their winter boots and shoes already in both the mens and womens ranges . I'm on the look out for some new ankle boots at the moment and I'll definitely be heading back to Kurt Geiger before I look anywhere else.
The Kurt Geiger Carvela shoes I own are a pair of the Argyle style in pillar box red.
I bought these off Ebay for a bargain price (always worth checking). The recommended retail price at the time was £120 so £40 was well worth it. I believe they have now been in the sale but still not that low.
I think of these shoes as an investment but they come out regularly for special occasions, though would be good to wear on a night out in bars or for a meal.
Definitely not for taking on holiday though as they are quite heavy.
The heel of them is around 5 inches but due to the platform sole they are a comfortable 4 inches. The inside is slightly cushioned which makes them last longer on your feet before the dreaded burning pain kicks in!
I recently wore mine to a wedding reception which meant plenty of tables and chairs to sit down in, but they were used well on the dance floor and went well with my black and white outfit. This particular style does also come in black but I liked the red as it is more attention grabbing.
They are a bit tricky on stairs until you get used to being a bit taller, though for regular heel wearers they would be no problem. You may have to take baby steps for a little while and find a nice strong man to link arms with. Taxis for the journey home are a must as running for the bus is a no no in these. The next day your calves will definitely have had a workout!
These shoes are made in Brazil and don't look flimsy like some. The heel and sole are sturdy and though the material is soft leather it is well stitched and not likely to give up after a few wears due to stretch.
I personally have wide feet with narrow ankles so they were bought on a whim as I fell in love with the design and colour.
They were however one of the best surprises ever, the ankle part came up high enough that there was no slippage and though I normally go for 6 ½ due to my wide feet the size 6 fit really well without squashing my toes too much.
They are my favourite pair of shoes that I own and I would buy another pair of Carvela's without hesitation if they were this price on ebay, though perhaps in a different style or colour.
I decided that I really ought to review Kurt Geiger after purchasing another pair of Carvela heals to add to my collection. I now have 2 pairs of Carvela heals, Kurt Geiger boots and a pair of sparkly trainers, which were passed onto to me.
I think it's fair that I explain that Kurt Geiger are high end high street designer shoes, which are too die for, in my opinion. Carvela heals are a collection of Kurt Geiger and they have just launched a new range ( the name escapes me!), which are slightly more affordable,
I have to say that I see their shoes as somewhat of an investment and normally only buy them in the sale, I still feel guilty paying £80 for a pair of heals but I know that they will last me.
The Kurt Geiger boots that I have are black suede with fringing round the edge with a wooden sole, I think they are absolutely gorgeous and a lot better quality then anything I would find in Schuh or Faith. The pair of heals that I have are from the Carvela range, I choose black, although they do come in a range of colours. Although, they have a 5 inch heal, I actually find them fairly comfy and my feet are usually crippled and am able to walk in them ( mind you, only over short distances!)
Kurt Geiger shoes come in a huge range of styles in many colours and they also do a range of stylish men's shoes. There really is something for everyone and for every occasion, I have my eye on my next pair.
I think the shoes are expensive but really every woman should have a pair. Their heals make you feel divine and sexy, and besides they are an investment. I usually buy mine from Amazon or John Lewis as I find the Kurt Geiger store can often be more expensive.
I bought same beautiful Carvela boots from Kurt Geiger. They are called 'Supper'. Brown suede ankle boots with little tassels with a gold bead, super high heels a small platform. Like most women I love shoes but I often don't spend £150 of a pair of shoes but these are worth every penny.
Not only do they look amazing , they look great with skinny jeans or leggings and a jumper dress, but they are really comfortable. They have ultra soft padding inside and they don't rub or slip. The suede is brilliant quality and they still look brand new (I've had them since October).
Well worth the money I would say, they are going to last for ages and are always going to be in fashion. Pay the extra for the comfort, its well worth not getting blisters and feeling like your feet are going to fall off.
I have my eye on another pair of Carvela shoes at the moment. Carvela are always up to date with fashion and most importantly they don't sacrafice comfort for fashion. They have made a real effort to make the insides as comfortable as possible.
The Snow Ball was planned for today (was cancelled last minute today. Grrr!), and I had a gorgeous dress from Krisp, all sexy and Christmas like, had Make up and Hair sorted out, and even my date, with my friend Clare sorted. But shoes! So searching and searching, I remembered in the attic, my shoe box, which held the answer to my Snow Ball disaster: Kurt Geiger Carvela High Heels, which I had "invested" in about a year ago.
Carvela Shoes are High Heeled Platforms with a skinny heel and are glossy. The Heel is around 140cm tall, which is just above average for Heels, or I've just got really High Heels?! Anyways, this range of Kurt Geiger Heels, come in a range of colours, and personally I have a black pair, Carvela Asprin, which are only Available in Black and Metallic. But Kurt Geiger Carvela have a huge range of styles of Heels to suit every women, from Kitten Heels to Platform Heels, and colours to suit every outfit and occasion. And the Carvela range is very large, which is advantage, as a lot of shoe shoes, have small ranges and change regularly, but the Carvela range has all the classics, such as my Black Platforms, but also have much more recent fashion trends, such as Gladiator styles. So check it out a find your perfect style.
While studying, Fashion, I have much more technical knowledge about how well or badly made a product is, and after checking (I'm a saddo, I know!) I noticed my Carvela Asprin Platforms, are pretty well made and strongly made, which gives me much more security when wearing them, because I really don't want a broken heel on the night. And after, going in the Kurt Geiger store in Cambridge, I did notice all the shoes were really well made, and all seemed really great, as a lot of High Street Stores have pretty poorly made shoes, which rarely last a long time, which is why I tend to spend a lot of money on well made shoes.
The Asprin Platform Heels, are really comfy to wear, but I feel there is no difference in how comfy they are compared to other Platforms I own, as after a while, I get the burning pain in my feet, but I am going to say that, most Heels, higher then Kitten Heels, will give you that pain, are there are some products which help a little. But no pain, no gain, right?
Kurt Geiger Asprin Carvela Platforms, were actually a present from my ex Boyfriend about a year ago, but after checking the Kurt Geiger website, I saw that they are still sole, at £130, which I personally think is really expensive, but I do really believe these shoes are amazing, they're comfy, sexy and really make an outfit. And I personally ONLY wear them for very special occasions, and I keep them in tip top condition, so I believe they will last me quite a while, instead of only last a couple of months. I would recommend any of the Carvela Styles, as I think they are all amazing, and if I had the money, I'd get all of them! So maybe one for your Christmas list ladies.
Sometimes nagging really does pay off!!
I had spotted the Kurt Geiger Carvela Delicious shoes ( http://www.kurtgeiger.com/online-shop/56272-carvela-delicious/image/3 ) on the web, and instantly fell head over heels in love with them, and knew that I just HAD to have them, or else I would without doubt die! I'm sure my fellow shoe addicts know the feeling! And so I went on and on and on about them, and what should i know, last week I had a package delivered. I tore into it, not knowing what it could possibly be, and when I opened the box I nearly passed out with excitement! My amazing, wonderful, perfect fionce had decided to treat me (that, or he had got sick of my overdramatics!) and had bought them for me!!!
Once I had stopped screaming and dancing around and hugging said other half, I sat and stared at them for a while, trying to find something which made them anything less than perfect. I couldn't find anything!
++What do they look like?++
The Carvela Delicious shoes are high heeled platform courts, with bow detailing on the heel, and contrasting glossy platform and slender heel. I was bought the black, the colour i had hinted for, as i am not keen on the other colour choices, which are pink and grey, but since my friends have seen mine, one has now put in an order for the pink ones (I strictly forbid anyone to get the black ones, they are mine, all mine!!) so maybe that is just me.
++Trying them on?++
I slipped foot into the shoe, and gave the biggest smile ever! Ok, so when i stood up I wasnt totally steady, but i never am with new shoes, even through I long ago got the art of walking in heels down to a T!
I'm not going to tell you they are as comfy as the old trusted Ugg Boot, but that is obviously to be expected, as these have 11cm heels (not sure of the cm to inch conversion, just over 4 inches?). But I will tell you that they are alot comfier than alot of high heels, especially the cheaper high street equivelent! They are definately comfy enough for work, and for a night on the town (I have tryed both!), and any way, everyone knows you must suffer to be beautiful dont they?!
But please let me warn you, be prepared for shoe envy and the most compliments you have ever had! I have had more expensive, coveted shoes, but they haven't got as much attention as these!
These shoes really are amazing, and make you feel so sexy, as they really elongate your legs!
Occasion- Evening, althrough I have worn them to work and found them suitable, but maybe the grey and pink wouldnt really be suitable!
Inside heel height- 11cm
Useful tips on looking after your new shoes! (All these tips were included in a small booklet I recieved with the shoes!)
Repairs- Timely repairs are extremely important in order to prolong the wear of any type of footwear and to prevent damaging their construction, especially heels and soles. Slim heels, like stiletto or kitten styles, need to be checked regularly as the heel tip has a much smaller surface area compared to a block heel, where weight is distributed over a larger surface area.
Narrow pointed toe shoes will also need special care for the same reason, as the toe is smaller and more inclined to wear quickly.
Leather soles are made of a natural material, which is regarded as more comfortable, flexible and kinder to your feet. However due to their porous nature they are not waterproof and can often require repair sooner than a synthetic material, particularly if worn in wet conditions on numerous occasions.
Shoe care products- Before wearing any new shoe or boot we advise you to invest in suitable shoe care products, in particular protector spray. Ensure that you check the suitability of the product before use. Protector spray is a great help primarily against water penetration but can also help against soiling (these sprays do not however guarantee to waterproof).
Kurt Geiger recommends products by Collonil and Dasco.
Smooth leather - protect with suitable spray and apply neutral or tinted polish only if a suitable shade can be found. We do not recommend a tinted polish for lighter, more delicate colours as they can often discolour if not a close match.
++Do They Last?++
I've now owned these shoes for almost 7 months, and after wearing them ALOT (At least once a week or so) I have only had to have them re-heeled once, which is brilliant, as I have had shoes in the past that after wearing them twice have needed re-heeling. The shoes are also still in very good condition, but I have taken very good care of them!
++Would I recommend?++
Without a doubt! If you want new shoes that will make you feel sexy, confident and glamourous then buy these! I already have my eye on another pair of Carvelas, the Awesome shoe! If I can ever afford them i will let you know how they compare!
