“ Brand: Matalan / Type: Womens Shoes „
I think Santa must have been especially busy this year as he forgot to bring me a new pair of slippers, so I found myself rummaging around the back of my wardrobe as I knew I had several pairs in there and I found these lovely butterfly sequin slippers which I actually bought myself about eighteen months or so ago from Matalan. I think I paid around £4 for them which is about the average price I will pay for a pair of slippers. I am really a size 4 and a half but bought them in size 5 as they didn't come in half sizes, but they are a good comfortable fit and although there is plenty of room I have never had the feeling that they are about to fall off.
They are a light cream/off white colour and have a rich purple coloured trim all around the edge. I especially love the inside of these slippers as it is in a lovely patterned butterfly fabric in various shades of purples and creams which match the cream and purple of the outside of the slippers. At the top of the slippers on the side about where your little toe is, there is a pretty sequinned butterfly which is sparkly and looks really attractive. It is in shades of purple which match the edging and I think make the slippers look stylish and expensive.
You can wash these slippers but I have not had cause to as although I have worn them quite a lot I never go outside in them so they are still quite clean. I would say that I haven't worn them for about two months now but unlike some slippers which I have thrown in the back of the wardrobe and when I fish them out they are a bit smelly, these seemed to be very clean and fresh. You can see inside where my toes have been but apart from this they have kept very well and have not shown any signs of wear. I have had similar slippers before and have washed them in the washing machine usually in a pillow case or a washing bag and this is what I would do with these if I needed to. I would say that due to the light colour they would get dirty very quickly if you were to wear them outside and as far as I can remember they didn't come in any other colours than the ones I have.
They are very comfortable as the sole is quite padded and they also have tiny dots on the sole which help to prevent you slipping on shiny or wet surfaces. I wouldn't say that they are the warmest slippers but personally I don't like my feet feeling too hot and just wear them for walking round the house for comfort. I do love these slippers as I do love anything with butterflies on and think that they are very stylish and pretty and look far more expensive than the £4 I paid for them.
==Matalan Butterfly Slippers==
I seem to go through slippers like there is no tomorrow and unfortunately being pregnant seems to make the speed in which I need a new pair even quicker. I chose these slippers from Matalan a few months back purely because they were cheap and looked cute and I needed a new pair as my old ones were beginning to have holes in the toe.
In retrospect getting these slippers probably wasn't the best idea for me as I tend to wear my slippers in and around the home as well as a quick trip into the back garden or to the rubbish bin. Thus the creamy white colour of these rather cute slippers didn't actually last too long before they needed putting in the washing machine.
The slippers were only £4 which I find really cheap when comparing them to the likes of the M&S slippers at around £12 or indeed the Roxy slippers I have had before which go for around the £25 price tag. So for a mere £4 one could indeed buy two pairs and have one spare for when one is in the wash.
The slippers did wash up fairly well and also because they are relatively thin they dried of pretty quick too. I washed them on a 30 degree wash using a fast spin and although not looking quite as good as new, they kept their shape fairly well (after a shake) and the dirt and smell was gone! The cute little butterfly which is stitched onto the outside of each slipper was a little creased up but with a touch of rearranging before drying this looked ok too.
The slippers are not too chunky and for that reason they are easy to wear and safe when walking up and down the stairs. They fit my feet well and although not the cosiest or comfiest pair of slippers I have ever owned they have worked really well for these warmer months and were more or less ideal.
I have to say that for the price tag I can't really moan and they are doing me well. They have been washed a good few times now and are still looking okay. They won't last too much longer but with the extra weight I am carrying and the amount I do wear them both inside the house and out in the garden I think for £4 I can't complain at all. They are affordable, lightweight slippers that wash up well and look pretty cute. I think a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and a high recommendation is well deserved by this pair of slippers.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
* INFO - WHY DID I BUY? *
Unfortunately I had to go into hospital recently and I decided that I had better purchase some new slippers and a dressing-gown as my others were starting to look a little worse for wear!
This was no big hassle, as I regularly buy pairs of slippers for myself anyway. I wear slippers each and every day around the home to keep my feet warm, even in summertime. My first choice for looking for my new purchases was my local Matalan store, as I have found their range of nightwear is perfectly suited to my own tastes and budget.
I eventually ended up purchasing two pairs of slippers, mainly because I couldn't decide which ones I liked the best. Again, this was no big problem for me due to wearing slippers so often - I tend to go through quite a few pairs!
My favourite of the two pairs is the "Butterfly Sequin Motif Ballet Slippers" which cost me the bargain price of only £4 in my local store. As @ August 2012, they can still be purchased in store in branches of Matalan, but seem to have been removed from the store's website online at www.matalan.co.uk.
* PRODUCT DETAILS.. *
The slippers are available in a range of sizes from 3 to 8. I tend to like my slippers to be a little 'roomy' so purchased the size 7 although I usually only take a size 6 shoe. Whilst there is a little room in the slippers as I had expected, they are still fairly neat and don't flip off my feet or anything, even though they are a size bigger than what I would wear in a shoe.
The slippers look absolutely gorgeous and are extremely pretty. The slipper is styled like a ballet pump, and so are completely flat with a rounded toe. They have no fasteners or clips and are completely slip-on, which suits me down to the ground.
The main body of the pump-style slipper is an off-white colour, so perhaps not the most practical of shades, but I couldn't resist buying them anyway. Around the 'inside' of the slipper is some attractive purple ribbon that has been applied to look like piping. This offers an attractive contrast to the main colour of the white/cream slippers. The insole and interior of the slippers are covered with an extremely attractive print, detailing butterflies in different shapes and sizes, all printed in shades of purple, lilac and cream to tie in with the other colour schemes used on the slippers. Even though nobody would know this little detail is here, it really gives a lovely little 'finishing touch' to the slippers and is extremely cute.
The main detail on these slippers however, is provided by way of a little butterfly motif that is placed on the toes at the outer corner of each slipper. This little feature is what makes the slippers so attractive in my opinion, as it offers a little eye catching detail, thanks to the sparkly sequins making up the body of the butterfly.
Detailed in deep purple coloured sequins, with a little 'clear' sequin body running down the middle, the butterfly gives the slippers a very feminine edge and the little butterfly is rather stunning.
* MY EXPERIENCE.. *
I have worn these slippers for several months now and they are still going strong, although I have noticed a little 'wear' to one of the toes. For the £4 price tag however, I have no complaints in terms of the slippers being robust or able to withstand everyday wear and tear.
As predicted, the off white shade of the main 'body' of the slippers is slightly faded and it has lost a little of its 'crispness' after wearing - and washing - the slippers over the past few months. They are still 'wearable' and are not yet past their best but it is not difficult to see that their initial sparkle has become slightly diminished over time.
The little butterfly emblem has proved to be surprisingly robust, without any wear and tear or damage being evident. This was not what I had expected as I have a few tops and bags with sequin detail on them that have become loose over time. The little butterflies on the slippers actually look as sparkly and as fresh as they did on their day of purchase - even though the slippers have been washed in the machine a few time now, which is excellent news, given they add a little glamour to what would otherwise be a rather 'everyday' pair of slippers.
Washing the slippers is very easy to do, and I simply pop them into an old pillowcase and wash them with similar items such as pyjamas and flannels. I have noticed nothing in the way of discolouration, or colours running or really any evident damage at all after carrying out this practice.
The sole of the slippers is slightly padded although not overly so. The padded texture to the sole makes the slippers very comfortable to wear, with or without socks. The sole seems to have 'moulded' slightly around the inside toe area so that there are a few bumps where my toes sit against the sole. This is not a criticism, and I think that most pairs of slippers that I have had in this style have done this over time.
The outside of the sole is slightly textured and has some small 'raised' bumps across its surface which provides a light grip on floors and carpets. I have never experienced any slipping whilst wearing the Matalan slippers so the grips seem to be ample for my requirements. Wearing them on the polished hospital floors recently proved to be no problem either.
The slippers are not at all waterproof and I have never worn them outside or in the garden as I feel they would be easily destroyed - particularly when the pale colouring and design is considered.
All in all, I am delighted with my purchase of the Matalan Butterfly Sequin Motif Slippers and I am considering purchasing a second pair to replace my existing pair when they finally retire to the big washing basket in the sky..! I think they are extremely attractive and pretty and offer excellent value for money considering they cost less than a fiver. As a side note, I have received compliments from family and friends (in addition to nurses and other hospital staff!) regarding my pretty footwear, so I do think they are appealing to a variety of age groups and styles. Definitely recommended from me..!
