A cute little slipper that's really comfy and great value!

I absolutely love slippers and own several pairs. I recently treated myself to a few new pairs from Matalan, a shop which always stocks a lovely variety of clothes including nightwear and slippers in my opinion. Having owned several pairs of slippers from this retailer in the past, I knew that their products usually offered good quality for great value prices.

I bought myself the grey 'Squashy' slippers and paid only £3 from my local Matalan store. I have had them for a while now and have to admit that I am very happy with this purchase.

The slippers are a grey colour and the fabric of the outer 'mule' shaped slipper is a sort of 'grey marl' coloured fabric. The inside of the slippers has a contrasting fabric which is a grey marl background with a white flower printed on top.

The slippers are backless, and so are very easy to slip on and off. There is a pretty satin bow on the side of each slipper which is made of white ribbon, and there is a diamante stone in the centre of the bow. All in all, I think they are very attractive-looking slippers that have a sort of 'no fuss' look about them. I actually think they are a nice gift for somebody, and the little diamante bow detail prevents them from being drab, or plain-looking.

That said, the slippers are quite basic, although this is not necessarily a negative point for me. They are very lightweight, which is convenient for me in terms of comfort, as I do not like wearing slippers that are overly bulky or feel cumbersome to walk around in. Furthermore, I usually pop a pair of 'slip on' type slippers into my suitcase if I am travelling abroad as otherwise I really miss them when I am popping in for a shower or the like, and I always find the tiled floors in apartments and hotels abroad feel really cold on my feet, so it is my preference to take a lightweight slipper with me when I travel. The lightweight design and feel of these Matalan grey slippers makes these an ideal choice for this purpose.

I was surprised, given the low price I paid for the slippers, to discover that they actually have quite a decent sole on the underside of them. It is by no means the most robust non-slip sole that I have ever come across, but neither is it overly flimsy or simply made of material, which I feel gives very little protection, particularly when wearing a 'slip-on' style slipper such as this one. The sole in this case is made of a sort of rubbery, plastic material and has a ridged design on it to help prevent against slipping, which I had not expected in such a cheaply priced garment. I have certainly had no problems with slipping or tripping when wearing these slippers.

The Matalan slippers are machine washable, although I found no instructions to this effect on them, and only know this because I have popped them in my machine. This didn't have a bad effect on the slippers as such, but the inside of the sole on each slipper has become slightly 'thinner' than it was at the time of purchase, which is probably as a result of wear-and-tear as well as washing them in the machine. Again, for the price I paid, I am not too bothered about this, and feel that there is plenty of life left in the slippers after washing. I'm not sure they would stand up to continued washing over a significant period of time however, but this is to be expected with such a cheaply-priced purchase, in my opinion.

I found that the Matalan slippers were quite neatly-sized and even though my feet are a UK size 6, the slippers I purchased were a size 7/8 and they are not falling off my feet or anything of the sort. It is true they are quite roomy as it were, but I'd suggest buying these slippers in a size bigger than your normal size if true comfort is to be achieved!

I believe that the Matalan grey slippers are available in a choice of three sizes - small, medium and large. (The size 7/8 that I purchased is the large size I believe). They can be purchased in store within branches of Matalan, or online at www.matalan.co.uk, but you can expect to pay around £3 in delivery charges.

All in all, I think these are a great bargain and I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I think for the low cost, they offer tremendous value and are so comfortable that I'm considering buying a second pair for myself. These really are a great little bargain in my opinion!
