My younger sister is just like me when it comes to shoes, she has a vast collection which fortunately for me we are both the same size so I get the benefit of wearing her shoes and borrowing them! However, she unlike me would rather spend £100.00 on a few pairs of shoes rather than just one pair! As she is constantly at my house I seem to have more of her shoes than she has at her own house but that is something I certainly won't complain about!
Back in the spring I had a wedding to attend and wanted a pair of sling back shoes to go with a lovely dress I knew I could only wear one last time before the baby bump appeared. Despite have all of my shoes to sort through I saw a pair of my sisters still nearly wrapped up in a box when I was at hers and cheekily asked if I could wear them. She had only just received them in the post from Boohoo.com and reluctantly agreed after making her feel somewhat guilty about all the times I lend her my shoes (we will never grow up!).
The shoes in question are from Boohoo.com and are called Melissa Sling Back Shoes. I'd never been on boohoo.com despite hearing a lot about the website. Melissa shoes are only available in a nude patent colour which I love (I'm really into the whole nude shoe thing!).
The shoe is of a pretty simple design and has a lovely patent bow on the front near the peep toe which gives them a bit of a girly feel. The bow is made of the same material of the shoe and is the same colour. The shoes are made out of a synthetic material which is actually quite rigid and I would be lying if I said that they didn't rub as they did around the sides of my feet within a few hours of wearing them for the first time, this was expected but still uncomfortable.
The sling back is a thin strap with a small piece of elastic which I found really dug into the back of my heel and even though it didn't slip down (which I was expecting it to do) the digging in was a bit too much to handle after wearing them for the majority of the day and I had to move it further down my heel and it had left a slight red indent into both my heels which I wasn't too happy about.
The stiletto heel is a whopping 14cm which even for me I found high but it does have a substantial platform which takes off some of the heel height so they don't actually feel that high to walk in. The platform is in three layers in terms of colour, a bronze colour, cream and the same nude colour as the main body of the shoe. This stripy effect gives a bit more detail to the shoe which is nice. A good thing about this shoe is that there is a little padding in the footbed and heel area of the shoe which does add a little comfort but there is definitely no support to the shoe so if you need that added help to your foot arch etc then these are definitely no good.
The Melissa Sling Back Heel are only available on Boohoo.com as far as I am aware and come in sizes 3 to 8. My sister paid just £30.00 for them which I think reflects the over all standard.
For me, these shoes rub and caused my feet to ache until the next day. My heels were left with indents which I found unacceptable as the elastic just doesn't give enough around the heel and I hardly have wide heels! For me, these shoes are cheap and cheerful. Yes they look nice and went well with my outfit but as for quality, there really isn't any. The main body of the shoe is shoddily put together and the platform and heel are constructed poorly which is a shame but then I guess for £30.00 you can't expect too much from a brand that is not really that well known. I'm glad I never bought them and unfortunately my sister is now stuck with them and has had the same problems I have had. I wouldn't recommend them and would advise to spend a little more for better quality and fit.
