These are espadrille sandals from Miss KG. They have a suede front to cover the toe completely and a canvas back with leather ankle strap. The wedge and front platform are cork and they have a rubbery sole. The Pumpkin sandals are available in navy blue and beige but the back and cork are the same colour on both, I bought the navy because they look best with jeans and the beige are more formal looking. The wedge is 3.5" and the front platform is under 1/2".
These are very comfortable espadrilles. The front is lined so there is none of the scratching that sometimes occurs with this style of sandals. The canvas at the back is soft and cradles my heel and the back of my foot, the ankle strap holds the sandals firmly in place while I am walking and it is a lot better than the ballerina ties that used to be standard on espadrilles. The wedge is very easy and comfortable to walk in and doesn't feel like you are walking in heeled shoes, the sole is a grippy rubber so I feel always sure footed as I walk. I first wore mine on holiday to Spain where we walked the base portion of a mountain trail and they were very comfortable even on the stony uneven pathways.
I have had these espadrille sandals for about six months since they were launched as part of the Miss KG Spring & Summer collection. I use a suede cleaner to clean the front and a shoe cleaning cloth for the sole and wedge. They look as good as new but today I saw a crease has started appearing at the end of the toes on both shoes.
WHAT I THINK
These espadrille sandals cost £55 and were a good investment because the style is always acceptable whether or not they are bang on trend. I dislike the strap because it cuts my leg at a funny place and makes my ankles look thick if worn with a mid length skirt, it is comfortable though and fits better than the more traditional tie straps.
The suede is very soft and feels comfortable on my toes, I have not experienced any rubbing while I'm wearing these sandals. They are stable to walk in and the wedge is supportive because it doesn't thin out, the platform is not noticeable as I walk around in them.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
A few months ago I was wanting some espadrille type shoes simply because they have been in 'trend' for quite a while and although I saw a few pairs of similar type shoes that I liked I didn't love them and for me to part with my hard earned money I really do have to like an item that much that I can't leave the shop without it. Although most stores seem to have their own take on the espadrille style I still couldn't find anything I wanted to desperately buy until I saw a pair in Kurt Geiger in Cambridge.
Kurt Geiger tends to be where I either head to first or end up going to when looking for a pair of shoes and I am quite happy to pay the price tag for a decent pair of shoes. The pair I spotted had just been put in the summer sale and are by Miss KG another brand of Kurt Geiger. They are called 'Pumpkin' and come in grey, navy and pink. I opted for the pink which although I'm not a fan of bright pink the shade of these shoes is more of a nude, subtle pink which I thought was lovely and a bit more summery than the other colours.
I have no idea how or why Miss KG came up with the name of Pumpkin for the shoes but it is quite cute! The shoes to look at are very similar to other brands I looked at but something about these just drew me in. The front part of the shoe are made from a lovely soft suede leather which is already nice and supple. The back part of the shoe which goes around your heel is made of a soft mesh type fabric which has a rustic look and feel to it. The front part of the shoe is not as narrow which is nice and your feet aren't as quished in which is nice as some shoes I've had from Miss KG tend to be quite narrow.
The shoes are a wedge type shoe which is nice as I find them incredibly comfortable as your whole foot is supported well more supported than in a stiletto shoe! The heel height is around 7cm which I think is a decent height, not too high to be unsuitable for general day wear but not too small either. The shoes also have a small platform which is just over 1cm which again adds just a little extra height and of course having a platform makes the shoes feel not so high. Both the platform and heel are covered in a rustic rope type material which is industrially glued onto the shoe to avoid it coming off.
The shoes are fastened up by a strap which goes around the ankle and has a small buckle where the strap can be adjusted depending on how loose or tight you'd like it to be. The front of the shoes comes just up past your toes so the majority of your foot is open and on show. Therefore, if you need support from your shoes these won't be suitable as the sides of your feet are unsupported. The only way you will feel comfortable in these shoes is that you buy the correct size especially as the front of the shoes don't cover much!
The sole of the shoe is made from a synthetic material, almost like a tan coloured rubber which seems incredibly tough and durable which will hopefully make these last for quite a long time as they won't be able to be re-heeled or anything like that! The insole of the shoe is cream in colour which matches the shoe and has a small amount of padding which makes them comfortable to wear and helps look after the soles of your feet especially if you are wearing them for long periods of time.
I have had my pair for a few months now and they have been worn on quite a regular basis as I find them very casual and go well with my clothes. I mainly wear them during the day if popping out into town or to meet friends. They are just high enough to be completely comfortable even when wearing for long periods of time. They have never rubbed my feet even when they were worn for the first time which was obviously great but then at the front of the shoe there is enough room for your foot to move enough without rubbing the sides of the shoes.
My pair even though a few months old are lasting well the rope type material on the wedge part of the shoe still looks perfectly fine (I worry that it will unravel!) and the synthetic sole hardly has any signs of wear which again is another good thing. Although the front part of the shoe is made of leather it hasn't stretched with wear although it has softened a bit more it still looks absolutely fine as does the leather strap. I really cannot find fault with these shoes as I find them very comfortable and are quite a versatile type of shoe.
Overall, if wanting a casual espadrille which will hopefully last for quite a long time as well as being well made and of good quality then these should be on you're must have list! Even at full price I would have paid the price but of course even better when reduced to a price you'd no doubt pay for a similar pair of shoes in say New Look. 5 stars from me!
