“ Brand: New Look / Type: Flats „
I have to wear flat shoes for work and as you can usually pick them up quite cheaply I do have quite a few pairs in my wardrobe. I bought a pair of these bow front ballet pumps from New Look in the sale for £4 from a New Look in my lunch hour at work as the shoes I was wearing were quite old and I had just noticed that there was a very tiny split on the inside.
I haven't had a pair of these ballet type pumps before as I always thought that they were more suitable for younger people but as soon as I tried a pair on I just had to buy them as they were so soft and comfortable. It felt like I was putting my slippers on when I got home from work. Mine are a goldy beige colour and are ideal for the summertime as they go with any colour clothing and also look good when you have a bit of a tan on your feet and legs.
I have looked online and they do these in eight colours in total and range from sizes four to eight. I am a standard five and quite often there are not many fives in the sale so I was lucky to have found these. As the shoes I was wearing were on their last legs I gave them to the shop assistant to dispose of for me and walked out of the shop in my new shoes.
The material is synthetic and has a material trim around the edge at the top. The detailed bow is made of cord which makes them look very much like a ballet shoe and which you can tie yourself. They are extremely soft to the touch and are very pliable and easy to walk in. The only downside for me is that the rubber sole is really very thin and if you step onto a stone or an uneven surface you can really feel it. However using them to walk round at work is fine.
These shoes fit me quite snugly but have never given me any blisters or rubbed my heels or toes which I usually get from wearing shoes with no socks or pop socks. I think that they do look a good quality shoe and could easily be mistaken for leather.
I have been wearing them now for a couple of months and have started to notice a few light scuff marks around the toes and heels but this isn't really noticeable unless you look closely. Also they haven't started to smell at all which is unusual as they are quite snug on your foot which is a good thing as you never feel as though you are going to lose them or slip off.
I would buy these again for £4 as they have certainly been worth that amount, but not sure if I would pay the full price which I think is £8 as I feel you can always get cheap flatties if you look round. Have taken a mark off for the very thin sole but I think they are a pretty pair of shoes at a bargain price which I have enjoyed wearing during the summer.
I do have a large number of high heels and shoes that are not practical for everyday wear in my collection but I do have a number of more practical flat shoes that are suitable for running around after two young toddlers on a daily basis. These include Bow Front Ballet Pumps from New Look.
***New Look Bow Front Ballet Pumps***
The Bow Front Ballet Pumps from New Look are a flat rounded toe ballet pump. The shoe is made from a very soft leather look upper (made from a synthetic material) with a woven trim around the top of the ballet pump. Each shoe has a thin cord bow detail on the front of the shoe.
The shoe has a thin rubbery sole which is completely flat.
The shoes are available in eight different colours which are black, white, gold, silver, jade, purple, red and pink.
The shoes are available in UK sizes 4-8.
I have these shoes in pink and black therefore my review will be based on these colours.
The shoes are available from New Look stores and online at www.newlook.co.uk . The full range of 8 colours is available online however in stores only the larger stores stock the full range of colours. Most stores do however stock the black, white, gold and silver shoes.
The shoes are priced at £7.99. I think that this is excellent value for money considering you can purchase an identical pair ballet pumps from Topshop which cost £18.
I purchased these shoes direct from a New Look store therefore the shoes directly off the shelf and they come with no box, which for a lower priced pair of shoes should be expected.
Although the shoes are made from a synthetic material they do not have much of a scent to them and certainly do not smell like plastic in the way a lot of shoes in this price range do. The appearance of the shoes is also very good for such a cheap pair of shoes. The shoes are described to be leather look and I would definitely say this is true. I purchased these in black and bright pink. Both pairs have a very strong colour to them but are not shiny they are a matt appearance and feel very soft. The woven trim is finished off very well and has no lose ends and the stitching is very neat. The bows on the front of the shoes are neat and when the bow is tied is about 4cm across although you can tie the bow yourself.
Even on the first wear of these shoes they felt very comfortable as the material they are made from is so soft. The ballet pump style of the shoe means the top of your foot is exposed but your toes are covered. The shoe did feel quite smug on my foot but not uncomfortable or like it was rubbing. The woven trim is also very soft and this did not rub on the skin on my feet like I expected it to. I was very surprised when wearing these shoes I suffered no blisters even on the first wear which always seems to happen to me with flat shoes.
From the first wear the shoes were so soft they actually moulded to the shape of my feet. For long periods of time these shoes are very comfortable to wear with no rubbing and I wear them for long walks. The only negative to the shoes are that the sole of the shoe is extremely flat. This is a soft rubbery material which moves with your foot and bends as you move your foot. However they are so flat that after a long walk I often find that the soles of my feet ache. I also have found that the sole of the shoe is quite thin. If you stand on more rough terrain i.e. cobbles this is quite uncomfortable as you can feel this under your feet.
After around two months of regular wear (around 3 times a week for long periods of time) my shoes were ready to throw away as they looked extremely worn and scuffed. You do need to take care with these shoes as if you catch the leather look upper on pavement or kerbs it does scuff very easily making the shoes look quite tatty. I also found after two months the sole of the shoe was starting to tear away from the shoe around the toe. I do think that for £7.99 and the amount of wear I had got out of the shoes this was to be expected.
The sizing of these shoes is pretty average. I purchased these in a size 5 and I am somewhere between a size 4 and a 5. I did find the shoes slightly large after a number of wears but not small enough length wise to get into a size 4. I do have narrow feet so did find the fit of the shoes slightly wide but not too wide I could not wear them. For those with more normal sized feet I would imagine these shoes would fit extremely well.
These are a great pair of plain ballet pumps which are perfect for everyday wear as they can be matched with so many different outfits. They look great with skirts, jeans and leggings and because they come in a wide range of colours you can coordinate them accordingly. They are a very plain pair of ballet pumps with only a small bow detail but for £7.99 are excellent value for money.
The shoes are not the most durable pair of shoes you could purchase and after 2 months' worth of regular wear I have found that they are ready to throw away, but for £7.99 this is to be expected. Topshop sell exactly an identical pair of pumps however are more than double the price at £18.
I do not usually find ballet pump shoes very comfortable but these ballet pumps from New Look actually are. The shoes are made from a very soft material which does not rub or does not make your feet sweat excessively like many other synthetic material shoes do. However be warned these are a VERY flat pair of shoes.
