I love new look for their shoes, as they are normally fairly cheap, so you don't mind if you only wear the shoes a few times and I've found the quality of their shoes is excellent.
After seeing a lot of people wearing these last summer I decided to buy myself a pair. I headed to new look and found these. There was a large choice of espadrilles some in slightly different styles and lots of different colours.
I choose myself a hot pink pair for £8.99.
The Espadrille are made out of canvas, so with our British summertime, its probably best you only wear these if you know the weather is going to be beautifully with no chance of rain, as if it did rain your feet would get soaked wearing these.
I found these shoes really uncomfortable there wasn't much stretch to them and although I got them in my normal size they was really tight fitting on my feet. I only managed to wear these a few times throughout the summer as every time I worn them I would end up with my feet full of blisters. I did find the sole of the shoe quite comfy though and didn't burn my feet.
I was really disappointed with these as they are a lovely looking pair of shoes. But on another note they are still new looking, so I might get a few wears out of them again, if I want to put myself through the pain again.
I found after wearing these my feet would get very sweaty and smelly.
I would buy these again, but this summer im going to get the next size up so hopefully they are a bit more comfy to wear
I bought my first pair of these back in the early 90's, for a family holiday in Italy. I thought they were a funky summer shoe and would be great for lazing around the beach in.
They are a comfy shoe, with their material upper and rope type sole. You wouldn't think that rope could be comfy on your feet but they are. Socks are a definite no no with these, rather like socks and sandals, an unwritten rule that has to be adhered to that one. Whether walking the concrete streets or strolling on the sand, these will keep you looking cool plus your feet will stay cool too.
These come in many different colours to suit any clothing, they can be worn with skirts, summer dresses, shorts or trousers. Men and women alike can get away with these. So versatile and still a good shoe after all these years. The downside to them is the lack of waterproofing in any way. Having a rope sole, liquids of any type are soaked up and stored in the base. You can try giving them a quick rinse in water but the fraying doesn't take long to start, and once it starts it is only a matter of time before the shoe becomes incapable of use.
Worth buying as they are no hideously expensive, they look good and as long as you keep them dry, they can last a while.
New Look is one of my favourite places to buy shoes. Their selection is reasonably priced and they are really good at keeping up with all the latest trends and the selection changes on an almost weekly basis so there is nearly always something to be had.
During the summer I bought a fair few of their plimsolls and their Espadrilles not that I got too many chances to wear them with our awful summer but they were just nice fashionable shoes that were comfortable and casual to wear when we did get a nice day.
They have a massive selection of Espadrilles and you can find a pair in almost any colour. Some of them have the more traditional rope like soles while some of them have a rubber sole and look more like plimsolls.
I have a few pairs of Espadrilles as they are so cheap and usually on offer that I tended to stock up on a couple of pairs every time that I went in the store. They are usually about £7.99 for the plainer designs and they were selling them at one point two for £10 which made them a bargain.
They are made of canvas which is really thin and not all that well stitched together to be honest. The soles are quite thick but the canvas is so thin that even just trying to get a pair on your feet which might be a bit small for you can cause them to tear as happened to me when trying some on in the shop.
The thinness of the canvas does make them really lightweight and breathable and they feel lovely on my feet when the weather is warm. I find them to be so comfortable to wear and even when walking in them for prolonged periods of time I didn't find that they caused me to get blisters or irritated my feet.
I think that they are the ideal holiday shoe as they go fantastic with nearly everything and I have worn them with jeans, dresses and skirts and because you can get them in nearly every colour and because they are so inexpensive you can buy them to match whatever it is you are wearing.
For me I would definitely recommend New Looks Espradilles as they are colourful, comfortable and importantly they are extremely good value for money. Don't go in and buy them expecting them to be the best made shoes in the world as they aren't but for this little money what do you expect. A pair should last you the summer and as there are loads right now that are in the sale I would recommend that you stock up on some now while they are extra cheap so that you already have some for next summer when hopefully the weather will have improved.
I bought these espadrilles in the summer to wear on holiday to Cyprus, as I thought the canvas upper would help keep my feet cool in the 40 degree heat. They were around £5 I believe, which is a pretty good price for shoes! I bought the black ones as they would go with all my clothes and could even wear them when I got home from holiday. They were fairly comfortable, despite the fact that I found the size 6 slightly smaller than usual- but I thought this would work out to my advantage at the material on this type of shoe tends to stretch with repeated wear. They lasted my holiday fine, although standing in puddles was a mistake as the bottom of the shoe is a little like cardboard and just soaked up the liquid. They dried out fine however. A few weeks after I got back the sides started fraying and the backs started slopping off my feet, and so I could no longer wear them. They we're not bad for a fiver and lasted me a good few weeks, although they aren't very sturdy.
Im your typical student, always looking for the best fashion at a reasonable price, found these bad lads and thought they were good for the summer. turns out after a week of wearing them the backs where your heel is began to wear out, the smell of any fluids which you stood on became embedded into the canvas bottoms and refused to go away
The original eye catching casual look of these shoes, has quickly faded as once they become dirty and damaged they cant really be washed and you soon start to blend in with your local hobo crowd!, When you get caught out in the rain with these shoes on the black dye from the shoes leaked onto my feet and left massive black marks around my feet, not a good look when going sock less (which is a must in this style shoe)
On the plus side, there very comfortable to wear as the canvas picks up the shape of the sole of your foot and creates like a hammock/cradle for your sole to rest.
I am a young student, therefore I am quite concious of fitting in with the latest trends and fashion. I have my own personal style, but I like to incorporate various fashion elements in to it. A few months ago saw the return of espadrilles, which are slip on airy shoes, and to be frank quite a blast from the past. I have to admit that when they first came out I thought they were quite ugly and not something I was rushing to purchase. However, the more I have been seeing them around, the more I have grown to like them.
These were only around £7 from New Look, however there was an offer on when I brought them, where you could get two pairs for £9.99 if I recall correctly. I picked up the plain black ones as shown in the image, as well as a pair of peach pink ones too. They had such a wide range of espadrilles on offer, including blue, pink, orange, white, as well as stripey pairs and some floral ones which were very pretty, but definitely for the bolder and braver people.
The best thing about these shoes is that they are quite comfy, and not a bulky shoe to have to drag around in the summer. They are very airy, and therefore keep your feet quite cool, and once you have squeezed your way into them, they do actually become quite comfortable after getting used to them. When you first try them on, they do appear quite tight, but don't be deceived by this, as they do sort of stretch out once you've got in to them.
Despite being a quite odd looking shoe, they do tend to pair up with various outfits well, particularly the black ones being very versatile. I often find myself wearing these with chinos and a plain top, however they suit various trousers and jeans. The more colourful versions of these shoes are great for giving your outfit the wow factor, and helping you to stand out from the crowd. They are perfect for daytime, casual looks, and I find these shoes so nice because they are a lot different from anything else I own.
One thing to note is the quality of these shoes. Just by looking at them, you know they are not going to be the strongest wearing shoes, however New Look are a brand in which I expect a good quality, and generally with all of my other shoes from there, they have been very long lasting and good in quality. Unfortunately, even though I was very impressed with the way these looked, they simply did not last long enough. After a few wears of these, they were breaking apart which I was not very impressed with.
Overall, I think these espadrilles deserve three stars. This is because I feel that they look great, are a fair price, but the quality of these shoes really knocks these down. Therefore, if you are after espadrilles which you are wanting to wear on a regular basis, I would not recommend these New Look ones. Thanks for reading.
