“ brand: New Look / Boots with concealed wedge, no zip. „
I love these style of boots and last winter, I was buying them from another shop and always managing to ruin the sides of them (I think I must walk funny), so I got through about 3 pairs of boots last winter.
So when I saw these in new look I decided to give them a try as they had a higher sole which my normal boots didn't.
The boots are more or less the same looking as the ugg style boots, but without the price tag and the label at the back of the boots.
I didn't try on the boots until I got home, which was then I realised there was a hidden heel inside, which is not good for tall people. I needed a pair of boots so I decided to keep them. if I would have realised there was a heel, I don't think I would have bought theses as I'm tall enough. These boots did give me a added inch or two.
The boots end above the ankle, with a plain black soft suede on the outside with visible stitching. Inside the boots are fur lined inside and very soft. The heel is rubber and has grips to them, I haven't actually been able to try them during icy and snowy weather yet, but I'm 99% confident these boots will be fine to wear in the bad weather.
I have to say with all the rain and bad weather we have had so far these boots haven't leaked rain into my toes, and I've ended up with soggy feet and socks, which was a big problem I was having with the other boots and they still look in good condition.
I have not received any discomfort from wearing these boots, as with the heel I wasn't too sure if I would get some pain, but after wearing these most days they are still lovely to wear. The fur inside keep your feet lovely and warm as-well which will be lovely in the freezing cold.
I'm making these a 4 star because off the hidden heel, if not they would haver got a 5 star.
I paid around £30 for these from new look.
I read a review of these boots on DooYoo a whole back and thought they sounded great, so when I saw a few pairs marked down to half price in the New Look sale last week I was keen to grab some and give them a try.
--- Appearance ---
I saw these boots in black or grey. I chose the grey as I already have quite a few pairs of black boots and shoes so I wanted something different. The grey is a lovely soft colour and goes great with jeans, black or various other colours like teal or burgundy.
These boots come up to the ankle and they are similar to Ugg boots in their style. They have a little bit of visible stitching on the outside and are otherwise just plain. They have a white fleecy lining inside which keeps them feeling very cosy and warm to wear. The look of them is simple and they are great because they are so versatile. The unusual thing about these boots is that even though the bottom of them is completely flat, they actually have a wedge inside. I would say the wedge is a good four inches. The wedge can be seen by those who know it is there as the shape of the back of the boot is slightly odd, as the wedge makes it stick out a little bit. However, after I had been wearing these I asked my flatmate if she thought there was anything weird about the boots and she said no. She had no idea about the wedge and did not notice it at all. She was really surprised when I showed her.
I think these boots look good and the fact they make me quite a bit taller is a big advantage for me personally, as I am only 5 ft 4 and I would always like to be a bit taller. I don't always want to be wearing heels so it is really nice to feel taller while still looking casual.
--- Wear ---
Boots like this, which have uppers in a soft suedy type material, can often end up looking a bit grubby or worse for wear after being exposed to the elements too much. I have only had these boots for about a week but today I was wearing them while out doing various jobs all day, and ended up having to trudge round Hackney for ages in the rain. I was gutted because I thought the rain would totally wreck these new boots and leave marks on the uppers, especially as the grey is a lighter colour. However I was amazed that after drying off they actually still look good as new! I am really pleasantly surprised. They did have a sort of speckled look while I was out due to the rain splashes and rain drops getting on them, and I then also ended up getting one of my boots absolutely drenched (stood on a dodgy paving slab which flipped down at the end and drenched my foot, annoying), so the boots were really tested out in the rain today, but after an hour or so of drying out they are fine. Despite the boots getting pretty soaked, my feet and socks did not feel wet at all, which I was also very happy about.
The boots are initially extremely comfy to wear. I have worn them three or four times now. Today after walking for a long time in them in the rain was the first time when I did start to get a bit of discomfort on the inner sole of one of my feet where it started to feel a bit burny. I would not wear them every day but I think they should be absolutely fine most of the time and maybe I would just steer clear if I knew I was going to be doing loads and loads of walking. They will be ideal for wearing to college.
--- Over all ---
I paid only £15 for these in the New Look sale and for this bargain price I am really pleased with my purchase. They are cute and nice looking casual boots which give me a sneaky bit of extra height, are surprisingly well suited for the rain and are pretty comfy to wear most of the time.
I would recommend them, especially if you are a bit on the shorter side like me.
I bought these boots a month or so ago, when New Look were having a 25% discount event on all footwear. I bought a pair of casual boots, and ended up buying these for nights out to give me a bit of height. The boots confused me at first, as the reason I was drawn to them was because they looked really comfortable, being faux-fur lined and they looked almost UGG-like in style, like slipper boots. When I picked them up I was surprised to find that the heel was hard, because of the hidden wedge. I was put off by this, expecting them to be uncomfortable, but in actual fact they are one of the comfiest items of footwear I've ever owned!
The boots come in three colours - black, brown and grey. I opted for black because I had already bought a pair of brown boots, and I thought black was the safest option for wearing these on nights out. They have a hidden wedge which adds a good few inches to your height, but without looking like you're wearing heels. The sole is thick rubber, and has a great grip which stops you being able to feel any cobbles or grit when walking, and also makes them safe to walk in when it's icy.
The boots look cosy without being frumpy. They give a good boost to my height, and I must admit I feel quite confident wearing these. I always find I have to concentrate when wearing any kind of heels, and this can sometimes detract from the feminine look I'm trying to achieve. These boots are so comfortable, however, I don't really have to think about it too much, so I just bounce around feeling very feminine. They are also very easy to walk in, and don't squash my toes or cause blisters. I have worn them for nights out and my feet have been as comfortable at the end of the night as they were when I left the house.
The fur lining makes the boots really warm, which is ideal in the current cold weather. I took these to Brussels for a recent city break, and they kept my feet nice and cosy when we were out and about each evening in the sleet and snow. I tend to wear them with leggings mostly, and they do gape a little at the front, but this doesn't really allow drafts in because the fleece lining provides insulation.
I have been lucky enough to avoid wearing these in the rain so far, and I wouldn't be keen on wearing them in torrential rain as I'm not sure if they might start looking a bit tatty due to the outside being a fabric material. I wouldn't worry too much about wearing them if it was only light rain, although the fact they're not made for rainy weather warrants a star knocking off in my opinion, as we do get a lot of rain in this country.
The boots currently cost £29.99, however I bought mine when they had 25% off so they cost me around £22 which is a good price for a quality pair of stylish but comfortable winter boots. These come highly recommended, so don't be put off by the hidden wedge.
