Advantages: Great value, fashionable, versatile with lots of outfits, comfortable to wear
Disadvantages: None for me
On a recent lunch break in town, I happened to be passing New Look when I remembered I'd never got round to replacing last year's winter boots which were looking scruffy and no longer waterproof. New Look is one of my first options when shoe shopping, as they're such good value for money and have a great choice.
These brown boots caught my eye, and I remembered reading some good reviews about them on here. I fancied brown instead of black, as I seem to end up with black boots every year, and as I wear a lot of creams and browns at this time of year I thought it would help me look more colour co-ordinated. They are also available in black, however.
The boots are ankle high which is great for me because I can't be doing with the faffing of trying to get into knee high boots and them having them slouching throughout the day. They don't have a zip so it's a case of just pulling them onto your foot, and the two buckles at the side are a nice decorative touch. You could adjust the top buckle if you were finding the boots a bit loose or tight, but they don't slouch or anything due to being ankle boots and reasonably firm material. They have a rounded toe area, which I prefer to pointed as there's less chance of my toes getting squashed.
The heel on these boots is only very slight, maybe a centimetre, and although this doesn't really add anything to your height it makes the boots feel more feminine because they make the clicking noise when you're walking. I find the sole is good quality and protects my feet from the elements, although I try not to wear these when it's raining too heavily because I worry about them spoiling or the colour running. I feel safe driving in these boots, this is quite a big consideration for me, because I can't drive in high heels so I try to avoid impractical footwear because otherwise I feel compelled to change into trainers when I'm driving somewhere, which adds to the faffing and time factor.
Comfort wise, I can wear these boots all day in work without any discomfort, which is unusual for me because my feet are slightly different sizes, so I tend to find one foot is always slightly less comfortable than the other. In this case, the only criticism I have is that after a LOT of walking, my little toe rubs ever so slightly on one foot, but not enough to cause a blister, and again I think my oddly sized feet are to blame for this!
I have so far worn these boots with jeans or leggings, and they are really versatile with different outfits. I don't really wear skirts but they would look great with a little floaty short skirt teamed with tights, and the top buckle means you can reduce the gap between your leg and the boot, as this is something I hate sometimes about wearing ankle boots with leggings as you can get a big gaping hole. They look really fashionable, with an almost "cowboy" feel about them, and without scrutinising them you wouldn't tell they're not real leather.
The boots seem to be good quality, although I haven't had them very long I can tell they are well made and it will take a lot of wear and tear before they start falling apart. I have previously had boots from New Look which have literally lasted for years before they needed replacing. I trust New Look's products and this is one of the reasons I shop there - I don't have to weigh up how long something will last when deciding whether to buy it or not.
When I bought these boots, they were priced at £19.99, but there was 25% of footwear so I only ended up paying £14.99. For a good quality pair of boots which are also reasonably fashionable, I think this is excellent value.
