New Look Floral Sequin Flat - Under £20 from New Look
I am a massive fan of comfortable shoes, and as such have a lot of ballet pumps. I love the simplicity of them, and their versatility.
These ballet flats from New Look are wonderful - I have a lot of black shoes, but when it comes to summer I like to have something just a little bit more 'in season' as it were. They have a wonderful rounded toe - which for make them a little more comfortable as they don't crush my little toe into awkward shapes, and they don't affect bunions (not that I wear heels enough to have those).
The shoes are made from a floral material, that is over laid with see through sequins. This adds a nice little shimmery that catches the light nicely without being too in your face, and glittery.
The shoes have a flat sole, and a separate heel that is probably about 2 ml deep. They soles of the shoes are rubber, and although they are a little slippy in heavy rain they do grip the pavement in normal weather conditions just fine.
All in all I would recommend these shoes to friends or family as they are just so cute and easy to wear with anything.
I sometimes think when it comes to shoes I'm not a real woman. As far as I'm concerned shoes are there for comfort and nothing else. I hate heels and wear them rarely and I actually quite like being short so that suits me fine. I hate the look of trainers so my preferred shoe of choice is a flat ballet pump or flip flop.
Although quality is somewhat important I wear the same pair of shoes everyday for 3 months and then chuck them out when they break so I'm not really willing to pay a lot. New Look is a great place for me to buy shoes because they are usually around the £20 but as a student I get an extra 10% and they almost always have a sale on. They offer affordable, pretty looking shoes that last a few months before they fall apart. Perfect for me.
As someone who wears the same pair of shoes everyday I need something relatively inoffensive in colour and design. I want something that is versatile and will look good with pretty much any colour combination that I wear. These ballet pumps are great because they are predominantly black but with a variation of colours in them that means it goes with anything really.
These flats are fairly simple in design, a standard ballet pump with a curved toe. They have a small wedge heal and a rubber sole with ridges to avoid slipping. They have a black rim around the top and a black bow on the front, the outside is a floral fabric which has been overlaid with clear/opalescent sequins. The overall look is nice from fair away, though I find that if you get too close they begin to look a little bit cheap. I think the sequins and the floral pattern together looks a little bit teeny but as I said from a distance they just look like a nice pair of patterned pumps.
They do also do a cream coloured version of these though for my purposes I think they would stain too easily as I do tend to wear my pumps everyday. If you wanted something for a special occasion the nude coloured ones might be nice though - just avoid wearing them in bad weather.
These shoes retail at £14.99 which is actually quite a bit cheaper than standard shoes at New Look which tend to be around the £20.00 mark. If you can get them with student discount or on sale then even better!
These shoes have lasted me 3 months before they began to wear too much. I found them very comfortable though my feet are used to wearing flats all the time. This for me is definitely value for money and if I see them on sale at any point I'll buy myself a second pair.
Overall, a nice pair of shoes that have worn well
When it comes to shoes I like quality and I am quite happy to pay a little more for a well made pair of shoes as I know these are more likely to last me for at least a few years than a cheaper pair although I do have a pair of Topshop ballet pumps that have lasted me now for about five years! However, I do buy cheaper shoes if I really like them but I do find the quality of them can be a bit hit or miss.
Recently on a shopping trip in Newcastle I ended up browsing around New Look as I was looking for a few comfortable boyfriend type cardigans and I ended up browsing the shoes. I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of New Look shoes as pairs I have previously owned have rubbed my feet raw and I've just been put off. However, New Look seem to be putting a bit more care into their shoes, they offer a wider choice of styles which is more appealing. As a few years ago their options were limited.
A pair that caught my eye was the Floral Sequin Flat. I was instantly attracted to them because of the sequin detailing. They come in three different colours; black, cream or airforce blue but regardless of colour they all have the same floral pattern and are covered in sequins. The colour option I chose was black as I knew these would go with most of my clothes and wearing cream shoes in winter will always end in disaster!
The black version have the lovely large floral pattern which is then covered in clear sequins all over the flat shoe. The sequins are sewn on tightly so hopefully they won't come off but I think wearing them too much or abusing them may lead to sequins falling off as the cotton that is used isn't particularly thick. Even though the sequins cover the entire shoe you can still clearly see the floral pattern underneath. There is a lovely little black cotton bow at the front which gives them more of a ballet feel to them.
The shoes are made from fabric which is actually quite rigid in order to keep the shape of the shoes. I do find with the cheaper end of shoes that the fabric is not as good quality and this for me can normally lead to rubbing around my heels. The binding of the shoes which is black on my pair is stiff, again to hold the shape of the shoes. When I first tried these shoes on I did find them a little rigid but they were comfortable and after walking up and down in the store I ended up buying them as I did really like the floral pattern.
I have had my pair for over two months and the shape of the shoe has really held up as the fabric hasn't loosened too much for the sides to gape which is great. However, I have had some slight rubbing which I half expected but nothing near to what I was expected. The fabric doesn't soften up enough for these shoes to stop rubbing so I do tend to wear them with nude coloured tights which is hardly a big issue. Even though I've worn the shoes quite a few times they don't feel as if they have been broken in as the fabric doesn't soften much. So far I haven't lost any sequins (not that I know about!) and the fabric especially at the round toe of the shoes is still in great condition as sometimes fabric can wear especially at the heel and toe of shoes.
The Floral Sequin Pumps are only available from New Look and come in three colours (black, cream and airforce blue). They come in sizes 3 to 9 and be purchased either in store or online for a very reasonable £14.99.
Overall, a lovely patterned shoe with added detail from the sequins. They are made well although the fabric used is for me far too rigid which doesn't give enough but at least they don't gape with wear. Definitely a cute little shoe which has a bargain price tag but I doubt they would last forever as the quality just isn't that great but they aren't going to break the bank and if you're careful wearing them they will last well.
