“ Brand: New Look „
I've said it plenty of times and I'll say it again, just because I have a large collection of shoes (including some high-end brands) that doesn't make me a shoe snob. Admittedly some of the shoes I own are very expensive, but I own just as many pairs that didn't cost the earth - such as these satin kitten heels which I paid just a fiver for in the New Look sale.
I have a love/hate relationship with New Look, and unfortunately these shoes have fallen into the 'hate' category for reasons that will become clear as you read on.
The shoes have a cute and very feminine appearance, I have the salmon-beige pair as shown above but I'm sure other colours and shades are available. The satin body of the shoe is very pretty, it has an almost matte finish which I like personally as cheaper satin effect shoes can be too shiny which does cheapen their appearance in my opinion. The twisted fabric embellishment at the toe and heel is a basic design, but done well to give the impression that some thought has gone into the design of them.
Unfortunately this thought didn't go far enough and while I found them comfortable to wear the shoes have turned out to be extremely poor quality. And you might think that for a fiver I got what I paid for, but the official price is £14.99 and to be honest I'd feel ripped off if I'd paid that for them. The problem is the heel - or lack of it in my case. I've actually owned two pairs of these shoes, the first pair being returned the day after purchase as the heel started coming away after five minutes wear. The second pair seemed fine, but I've now worn them six times and the heel on the right shoe actually snapped away from the body mid-step.
The heel of the shoe is a fairly wide 3 inch height, so there shouldn't really be enough pressure on the shoe to cause it to snap like that. I thought the heel was quite an awkward height actually; I'm adept at walking in very high heels and also like a nice pair of flats, but something about the heel of these shoes made me feel a bit strange.
The design and neutral colour of the shoes mean they are quite versatile. I admit I only wore them on a few occasions but they matched the outfits I teamed the shoes with perfectly. I thought they looked best with my pale skinny jeans, the shoes and a fitted top making the jeans look much classier but without it appearing as though I'd gone to too much effort. I did wear them with a shirt-dress while I was pregnant and although I was assured they looked nice, I wasn't convinced and felt the shoes were a bit too clumpy for that style.
I was, and still am, impressed by how comfortable these shoes are. The insole is nicely padded and shaped to give support to the arch of the foot, and the cushioning effect is fantastic which makes walking distances in them as painless as if you were wearing trainers. I don't want any comments saying that you couldn't walk in them, you could. Until the heel falls off! Even though the toe is quite pointed there is still plenty of room for you to move your toes around, however do remember that this is New Look so the sizing isn't as good as it could be. I'm usually a size four in this style of shoe but had to buy a five in this specific pair - my daughter is a true five in everything and she would definitely need a six.
I can't recommend them. They might be comfortable but there are much better quality satin effect kitten heels available for around the same price, in fact I'm looking at a pair I bought from Asda (high class shoe emporium that it is) for *exactly* the same price which I think will just about last forever. Y'know, I would recommend them in a way. If you're off to a summer wedding these shoes would look great, and for the price I paid it would be worth it to look nice on the photos even if they don't last longer than that one day.
I normally cannot praise New Look enough when it comes to their shoes as I find that they always have a fantastic selection of beautiful shoes that are generally well made especially considering that they are so cheap. However these satin kitten heels were an exception to the usual high standards I expect from New look.
First of all these shoes were cheap and only £14.99 if memory serves me correctly. I got them in black but they were also available in a variety of different colours as is usual for New Look.
They are covered in satin which isn't too shiny and cheap looking and actually have quite a nice subtle effect to them and looking at them you would never guess they were so cheap. At the front of the shoe they have two strips of frill detailing and the heel is only a couple of inches so they would be good for those people who can't wear a high heel.
Although they are quite pretty they are not the sort of shoe's I would buy for myself to wear out and I chose them as a work shoe as they look quite plain and professional but the little frills just give them a little bit more effect than completely plain black one's. The other thing I though about them was for some reason they just screamed bridesmade shoes and for this I think they would be absolutely ideal especially in the lighter shades they had.
The shoes were really quite comfortable to wear and I noticed straight away that the lower heel made walking in them so much easier. My feet were positioned in such a way that it meant I could wear hem for long periods without suffering any cramping and they also didn't rub or cut my heel.
So far so good so you might be wondering why I give them such a low rating. That is because the workmanship on the shoes was just so poor they only lasted me a week.
I noticed within a couple of days of buying the shoes and wearing them that the stitching of the frills was coming away on both the left and the right shoe. I glued it back on and continued wearing them but then I noticed that I was wobbling on one shoe because the heel was coming away from the shoe. I hadn't tripped or got it stuck and it was just coming away on it's own.
I didn't expect these shoes to last forever at the price but I was sorely disapointed because I own quite a large collection of New Look shoes and have never had these problems with the workmanship before. In fact I have shoes from there that I have had for years and still wear because they are so well made and some have even outlasted more expensive designer shoes.
Perhaps I was just unlucky and chose a faulty pair but because of these problems I had I can't recommend them hence my 2 star rating.
I got these shoes last Christmas in my local New Look and have been very happy with them. Obviously the smaller kitten heel is a lot more comfortable than platform, high heels so the shoes are great to wear to work or on a night out where no alcohol is available to dull the pain in the balls of your feet! I myself find that the lower heel does not do much for my legs though, higher heels make them look slimmer. The design is really nice and the colour goes with most clothes and colours, black, blue, cream etc. I found the shoes quite easy to clean after a night out and the shoes, and in particular the heel took quite a long time to wear down. I did not get replacement heels with my purchase but I got my dad to put on another set that I had and they done the job well.
What a real bargain, I picked these kitten heels up for £3.00 last christmas in the New Look sale, originally priced at £14.99. In the beginning I loved these shoes however now I have totally gone off them.
The heel is not very high so perfect for women and girls who either are really tall and don't like heels or for the office or even for those who just do not like tall 6inch heels!
Personally I think these go really well with either a bridesmaids dress or even a wedding dress, the look great with a pair of jeans, skirt and even linen trousers. Wearing them with linen trousers is perfect if like me you struggle to find a short pair of linens that fit.
They come in a variety of colours and a variety of sizes from 3 - 8. The satin is a pale pink and the frills are a cream colour, however the cream colour dis colours extremely quickly and I have also found that after one wear that the pink satin is fray and coming apart. These kitten heels are also very slippery on the bottom so not good in the rain. I have also found that on a few occasions the soles have popped out when I have taken my shoes off at the end of the day. On the plus side though they are extremely comfy and cause no blisters or sores so for £3 it is not too bad. These shoes are perfect for a one off but for constant wear they just would not last very long at all. I would have been very disappointed to have paid £14.99 and to have this happen to them.
So as a summary perfect for a one off at £3.00 but for anything more I would not recommend these at all.
Towards the end of last year, I managed to pick up a pair of these New Look Satin Kitten Heels for just £5, reduced from £14.99 in a sale, and as I liked both the shoes and the very low price of them, I couldn't resist. I had a friend's birthday party coming up and knew that these would go very well with the outfit I planned.
These kitten heels are covered in a very pale pinky beige satin material, and I think that it's a lovely, feminine colour without being overly girly. The satin gives the shoes an elegant, and expensive look, and it's hard to believe they were just £5. Towards the front of the shoe there are a few rouched criss-crossed ribbon frills in a slightly darker champagne colour which I think looks great contrasted with the pale pink / beige and gives a nice elegant touch to the shoes.
My New Look shoes have a heel approximately 1.5 inches high, which is great as it's easy to walk in them when compared with shoes with higher heels, and it doesn't take as much concentration when walking I find! It also takes the pressure off the balls of my feet - at the end of an evening wearing these there's no sense of utter relief when you take them off, unlike with some higher heels that hurt! The kitten heels on my shoes is still high enough to lengthen the leg though, and make you feel more feminine and elegant than when wearing flats for example.
I have worn these shoes on 4 or 5 nights out so far since buying them, and I have to say they are pretty comfortable to wear. The front of the shoe is slightly pointed, but not severely so, meaning that it doesn't squish my toes together into an unnatural shape and make them hurt, whilst still having an elegant and classic shape that appeals to me.
These shoes are also wearing pretty well also, having just a few self-inflicted microscopic scuffs on them which are hard to see. With the heel being lower, there's not as much pressure on the tip of the heel either, so that's still in very good condition, and I can see these lasting lots of evenings out to come. The only minor negative is that these are best suited to dry weather, as the one time I wore them in damper weather they picked up a little dirt from puddle water, which I had to gentle sponge off, although they did come clean.
Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. The shoes are classical, elegant and stylish, comfortable, fairly durable and were very cheap, so I'm happy with them.
My New Look Satin Kitten Heel Shoes are something I managed to pick up very cheaply in the sale. As they were a real bargain and still for sale I thought it was worth suggesting them as a product here. These little kitten heel shoes are the perfect height to wear and not feel like you are towering over your partner if he isn't gifted in the being over 7ft tall department. They are also very wearable for longer periods due to the smaller heel and yet still give off a pretty and feminine look.
My New Look Satin Kitten Heel Shoes are in the colour shown here. This gives a great idea of the look of these shoes, as the pale tone makes it easy to have a closer look at the nice detailing on the toe end of the shoe. Over all I feel that this little shoe is perfect for wear with all kinds of outfits and can easily be dressed up as required. I also think that in this paler toned colour they could also make a nice brides maid shoe and as the price is amazingly low right now they truly would be a bargain buy. Or they could even be dyed to match a colour scheme as they are in a pale tone.
These New Look Satin Kitten Heel Shoes were on sale for £14.99 previously, but when I spotted them on sale for the bargain price of just £3, I caved in and bought a pair (well at that price who wouldn't). The shoes come in a soft pewter grey effect and this light creamy golden beige tone effect, plus a very classy sultry black effect. I rather liked them all, but was drawn to the paler ones as the 'price was right'. The black is rather yummy too though.
All colour options I have seen have been nice and the pewter grey shoes are also reduced to £9.99 right now, so are still fair value. What I liked about these apart from the price of course was the pretty frilled detailing on the toe area of the shoe. If the shoe had been plain I possibly wouldn't have looked at it twice, as there is only so much you can admire about a simple satin look shoe. The light frilled material which is stitched across the toe area really makes the shoe shine out and it certainly looks very pretty when worn.
My New Look Satin Kitten Heels have a mid height heel that isn't too high for comfort and the heel comes to a neat, but not too slim and winkle picker stylee point at the base. This means you don't feel that you are constantly trying to balance your weight when wearing these, which also means the balls of your feet don't feel like they will crack under the strain of supporting you when wearing these.
The front of the shoe comes to a neat point, which is not overly sharp at the end. I feel the over all look of the shoes is of a classic nature and one that could be worn time and time again without dating too much. I certainly would not say these are a fashion shoe as such, but they do have a certain classic feel that means they should last me sometime.
As I paid so very little for my New Look Satin Kitten Heels I am not overly worried by how well they last in future, but having worn them I have to say that so far they remain in nice condition. One thing I would say is that if you are intending to drive I wouldn't recommend you wear these. The material being a satin style one, may scuff and spoil at the heel if worn in that type of situation, so I would say wear a different pair and then slip in to these when you arrive at your destination. Over all I rather like these shoes and as they were a bargain buy that looks so easy on the eye, I want to rate them with 4 stars.
