“ Brand: New Look / Type: Flats „
It is fair to say that shoes are a big part of accessorising for me. I like to have lovely shoes and jewellery and to be honest I don't worry about changing my handbags that often. I have one or two staple bags that I use almost all of the time and then some beautiful ones for evenings out and the like. I like a nice pair of shoes that can round off my look beautiful and if I want to wear something as simple as a pair of jeans and a T-shirt I know that nice looking shoes can really compliment the look and bring a little some extra to it. Now I don't shop in New Look very often despite working just a few minutes walk from one but for some reason I always seem to get New Look vouchers from several members of my family. Now don't me wrong, I'm not complaining as the chance to treat myself is always nice BUT there isn't that much in New Look that suits my tastes and I've had a few problems with their shoes in the past too, particularly their flats.
I actually picked these shoes up when they have a 20% off day and because they are £15 full price I paid £12 for them. This seemed like a reasonable enough price for a pretty pair of shoes and I love nautical shoes anyway so these seemed a perfect choice for my gift voucher. It did take me quite a while to pick in New Look as there are just what feels like hundreds of pairs of shoes on display and I often find that size 8 (my preferred size as I need a 7.5 really) is often out of stock there. This sometimes makes the choice a little more narrow for me but with this particular pair of shoes I knew that I wanted them as soon as I laid eyes on them. I do love a nice simple yet pretty pair of shoes and that is exactly what these are!
Really these are essentially a black and white striped shoe. There is a nice layered bow on the front, as with lots of the flats that I own, and the black and white of the bow matches the black and white of the inside side lining too which is a nice touch when they're in my shoe cupboard. The shoe is slightly raised at the back with the tiniest of 'heel' that isn't functional at all and is purely for aesthetic purposes from what I can tell when wearing these flats. The bow feels quite sturdy and I have worn these shoes probably 20 or 25 times now and there is no sign that it is going to fall off which is fantastic after so many uses really, especially as the bow is such an integral part of the design of this shoe. I love the stripes on the bow as they have a very nautical look, which I love, and they really do go with most outfits too, whether dressed up or dressed down for the day. There is a point to the end of the shoe but because I've gone for half a size bigger, as I often have to in New Look, this isn't a problem and my toes are not squished or sore at all. My toes have ample room and are not crushed at all which can often be a problem. These are actually much more comfortable than a similar pair of plain black flats that I owned until recently. I must say that these are comfortable enough to wear when out for the day or when walking around the shops at Lakeside. I have no pain and get no blisters while wearing these either. They are flat and are not supportive so they really are not perfect for every day use but sometimes I just want to give my feet the chance to relax a little after wearing heels at work or out in a bar and these are perfect for those days. I really like these particular flat shoes from New Look and despite my previous concerns I have been proven wrong and will be rating these 5 out of 5 stars. They slip on with ease and they are comfortable to wear to. They have worn well considering the amount of times that I have used them and they look pretty too.
They are starting to look a little scuffed now as I've been wearing them on and off for several months but they are not ready to be 'retired' just yet. I would have been happy even if I have of paid full price for these, £15 instead of the £12 I paid, but I didn't so they are even more of a loved pair of shoes because of this! I have worn these quite a few times now and feel that they still have a little life left in them even though they have loosen up. They will probably see me through until around Christmas time at which point I will no doubt receive another New Look voucher from a well meaning relative!
New Look is the shop I head to when I need to purchase a new pair of flats. I tend to only own a couple of pairs of shoes at one time, preferring flats and flip flops over fancy heels and sandals. New Look is perfect for a basic but stylish flat at a good price and so knowing I can trust their shoe line this is my shop of choice.
These shoes instantly stood out to me in store because they were pretty and yet really versatile. Because I only own a couple of pair of shoes, and tend to wear one pair of flats consistently for months, versatility is important to me because the shoes need to go with any outfit. These seemed ti fit the bill because they were an inoffensive navy colour with a navy and white corsage which added a pretty, feminine touch. I thought they would go pretty well with most of my wardrobe and would also be appropriate for work.
The shoes cost me £14.99 which isn't bad for a pair of pumps. Some of the New Look flats go up to £25 so this was at the cheaper end of the scale. I also got student discount which helps a little bit too.
The shoes have a suede effect to them which personally I really like. I know some people will be put off as these kinds of materials can get water damaged and are difficult to clean. I find that this dark navy colour doesn't show damage too much though and therefore suits me perfectly as they get quite a bit of wear. The little blue and white striped bow corsage is really nice too and has yet to discolour after months of wear which definitely bodes well for the longevity of these shoes.
These shoes are pretty versatile for me. I can easily wear them with leggings in summer and with a dress in winter (I'm really not into jeans). I also find they look great dressed up too and definitely look nice paired with similar colours. That said because of the simple design they really look good with any colour combination and I haven't found a thing they clash with yet.
I have bee using them now for a couple of months pretty solidly because we haven't had great weather and I can't dig my flip flops out yet. They have worn really well, are super comfortable and also wear in quite easily with minimal rubbing. My only real issue would be that the lining is made from a blue and white striped material which has discoloured quite a bit. I work for quite a few families where I am running around the house and the garden after small children without any shoes on. I suppose my feet become dirty and then in turn this dirties the inside of the shoe. I would much rather a navy lining as this wouldn't show the dirt as much and I'd be less embarrassed to take them off! This is only a minor criticism though and hasn't stopped me from wearing these shoes.
Overall, a great pair of nautical looking pumps which compliment any outfit.
I have quite a few product suggestions to review over the next couple of days so expect some quite varied reviews so Im going to try and do them in order starting with my shoe reviews. As I mentioned in my last review I went shoe shopping in the sales and I ended up buying quite a few new pairs - a girls gotta treat herself every now and then doesnt she? Anyway flat shoes are the main thing I went searching for and these 'New Look Striped Bow Flats' are one of the few pairs I came away with because I was attracted to them immediately - which in a shoe shop as large as New Look is a very big achievment in my eyes. I knew these shoes would be a pair I would get a lot of use out of because they are exactly my kind of style and would match with a lot of items in my wardrobe - Im very glad I bought these!
Stockists: New Look & newlook.com
Other Info: Available in sizes 3-8 online, suede effect shoes - means dont wear them out in bad weather conditions & these have a ruched, striped chiffon bow attached to the front of each shoe.
Again as with most New Look shoes in reality these look exactly like they do in the image so if your buying online what you see is definitely what you get with this pair. They are described as navy in colour but Id say they look black to me and the stripes appear to me as black & white so if you are looking for navy striped shoes these might not be your best bet. The shoes are flat with a very slight raised heel at the back but as with most flat shoes these dont add anything to the height or design really at all they are just there to balance out the overall look a bit and the inside is the same stripy pattern as the bow - some might say thats uneccassary as your foot is going to cover that part but it is still slightly visible even with your feet in there so I liked that added touch. The bow on the front is made from very light chiffon material and is in the shape of a layered bow - like the inside of the shoe the bow is also black and white stripes to fit in with the overall design and I adore it. I love shoes with bows or added detail and these are one of the nicest I own - the bow is gorgeous and makes an outfit look instantly more dressed up.
The front of these shoes is very slightly pointed which normally would put me off but in this case I havent found it hurts my feet at all or crushes my toes so I think everyone should be alright with these - its added design without taking away any of the comfort. These are very comfy to wear and to walk around in - I can easily walk around in these all day without any discomfort or pain even the first time I wore them which is odd for me so comfort wise these pass the test. Now even though these do have a distinctive pattern on them and the bow Ive found they match with most things I usually wear. I would say they are best for casual wear as they make a normal outfit look more dressy but I cant see why these wouldnt be suitable to wear on a night out with a nice skirt or shorts - they are quite versatile especially with more plain outfits. I love these shoes and Ive been wearing them pretty much non-stop since I bought them so I highly recommend them to everyone. They might not be the cheapest but they will last (if New Looks shoe quality is anything to go by) and they look great so whats not to like?
Thanks For Reading.
