“ Brand: New Look / Type: Boots / Gender: For women „
As soon as the weather began getting colder, I didn't need much of an excuse to buy a new pair of winter boots. Being heavily pregnant at the time I went shopping, I was looking for a pair of boots which would be easy to get on and off, and would provide generous room inside for my slightly swollen feet. I came home with these from New Look, which cost £27.99 at full price but I had 20% off due to having an offer on my New Look store card.
The boots are available in black or brown, and I opted for the brown pair as I tend to do with boots, as they go so well with jeans or leggings. They are wide fit, which isn't something I usually look for when choosing footwear, but in the later stages of pregnancy my ankles have swollen so I was grateful for the extra room as it meant my feet wouldn't feel squashed. Style-wise they are basic but smart, with belt and buckle details across the foot and at the side of the ankle.
The boots are ankle length, which I find goes well with most outfits, and they are also lined inside with a "snug faux shearling lining". This is one of the things that attracted me to these boots when there were so many to choose from, as I hate having cold feet and I thought the lining would be nice in winter to keep my feet toasty warm. The sole of these boots is also very practical, being quite thick and rubber based, so not only does it keep your feet dry, but I am expecting it will cope with icy conditions better than most boots. The heel is raised by about a centimetre, but is flat so you barely notice it's there.
In use, I find these boots extremely comfortable to wear, and I can happily wear these without fear that my feet will pay the price. The thick sole means you don't notice things like cobbles on the ground, and the sole is also quite bouncy so it feels springy as you walk. I find the wide fit very helpful at the moment, due to my swelling ankles, but I also think they will fit my feet well when they are back to their normal size. I was a bit concerned the lining might get a bit whiffy over time, but so far I haven't really noticed any nasty smells.
The only issue I have experienced is that the boots aren't as easy to get on and off as I expected. Although the foot part is wide fitting, the bit around the ankle is a little tight, so they do require a bit of effort to get on. That said, my feet are a bit swollen at the moment, so I'm guessing this won't be a problem when they're back to their normal size. It could be worth trying these on in-store rather than online, however, if you have large ankles or calves.
I would definitely recommend these boots as a comfortable but stylish way of keeping your feet warm and dry this winter. They tick all the boxes for me, and the fact they are wide fitting is a bonus for me. Five stars.
