Next Embellished Mule Sandals
Advantages: Glamorous looking, not bad support due to wide panel, thick sole
Disadvantages: Not the comfiest for long periods, but who would expect that from these? Expensive
I was lucky enough to receive some Next vouchers for my birthday in April, and as it was just before I was due to go on honeymoon, I decided to treat myself to some nice bits and bobs before holiday. That's how I ended up with these sandals, which come with a hefty price tag of £28, a cost I would never usually justify for sandals but somehow with the vouchers it didn't seem so bad...
The sandals I chose are white in colour, and they are embellished with white and silver beads of various sizes. They are also available in a chocolate brown colour with gold and orange beading. The beading was what drew my attention to these, as it looks really sparkly and like most women I am a bit of a magpie when it comes to things that sparkle and shine.
The sandals are flat apart from a tiny raised part on the heel. This is so tiny though it's barely noticeable. They are the type that have the separator between the big toe and your other toes, and I don't always find these the most comfortable, but I figured these were for decorative purposes when going for meals etc rather than mountain hiking, so I took a chance.
The sandals have quite a solid base to them, which I found unusual but pleasing. These kind of sandals are usually quite flimsy but these were solid. The toe separator is covered in some kind of plastic tube, so rather than fabric it feels quite hard against your toes. It doesn't really hurt or rub your feet, but does take a bit of getting used to because it's quite thick so your toes do separate a fair bit. The panel with the beads is very wide, so it feels like you're getting more support from these than most sandals.
As for comfort, these are never going to be your first choice of footwear for long walks or strenuous activities, but for a night out they're perfectly comfortable. They're actually more suitable for evenings than daytimes as I found in the day I sometimes had trouble keeping these on because my feet were getting a bit sweaty in the heat (eww, sorry!).
Overall, these are really lovely sandals which add a bit of glamour to any outfit. Although I wore them on holiday with things I wouldn't usually wear (i.e. skirts!), they would also suit jeans and cut-off jeans, and they looked great with my white linen"holiday trousers"! They look especially good if you have your toenails painted a darkish shade, as this contrasts nicely with the white.
Whether they're worth the money or not, well I personally would say not. But as they were a gift of my choice, I'm very grateful to be in possession of these sandals.
