“ Brand: Nine West „
Being 37 weeks pregnant my high heels have had to take a break from being worn and have been banished to my wardrobe. For the past few weeks flat shoes have become my saviour I managed to still look smart and presentable at client meetings and once at home I didn't feel desperate to throw my shoes off as my flatties tend to be very careful on my feet!
Knowing that my high heels were going to be banished for a few months I did invest in a few pairs of flat shoes knowing full well they were going to get worn a lot and I wanted shoes that would stand the test of time and if it meant paying that bit extra then so be it as the last thing I wanted to do was replace worn out shoes after a few weeks or months. Nine West have got a lovely little selection of flat shoes out at the moment and I was particularly drawn to one design called Sixteen.
What Nine West say:
"Sixteen by Nine West is a cute flat pump featuring embellishment detail to add a touch of glamour! Inject instant glitz to your daywear or wear as a flat alternative to heels in the evening!"
Sixteen are classed as evening wear by Nine West which I find suits the shoes but these also add a bit of glamour to a day time outfit as well. Despite being so heavily pregnant I do still go out on an evening with friends, my partner and even colleagues (despite being on maternity leave!) and I thought these shoes would easily replace my usual towering heels due to the glitzy embellishment on the front.
The embellishment on the front of the shoe is made up of faux pearls, jewels, metallic beads and thin gold chains. There is just enough to give the shoes some much needed detail which really glams up a plain black shoe. There are quite a few jewelled flat shoes around at the moment but most are made with rather large jewels whereas Nine West have used a mixture of sizes which I think make these shoes a little more special and also a bit more original looking.
The actual shoe itself is black leather (they only come in black) with a synthetic sole and lining. By having a synthetic sole the shoes will last longer as leather soles wear out too quickly and often needed replacing far quicker. The lining is a pale metallic gold which contracts nicely with the embellishment detail.
I ordered my pair of Sixteen shoes on the internet as I bought them directly off the Kurt Geiger website which is where I originally saw them and as soon as they arrived I couldn't wait to try them on! Sometimes me and flat shoes don't really go too well as I sometimes find they rub my heels. As soon as I slipped them on they fitted nicely with a little wriggle room which is always nice to have especially when you are on your feet for a long time and swelling can happen!
As with all Nine West shoes the leather is of good quality and is soft to the touch. I have now worn the shoes a few times both during the day and night and I found that there was no rubbing whatsoever to my heels but I did find that the shoes did rub slightly just above my toes where the shoes are cut before the rounded toe. However, after being a worn a few more times (with me wearing tights!) I found that the leather became far more supple and there was no rubbing whatsoever. I did wonder how secure the jewels etc were on the front of the shoe (especially those items that are in casings) but so far nothing has fallen off but I do make sure I keep them away from my other shoes and they do remain in their shoe box as I don't want them damaged. I have also noticed that the leather scuffs easily at the toe of the shoe which I find with all my flat shoes, may be I just don't walk correctly!
These gorgeous shoes are available from all Nine West retailers (Kurt Geiger, John Lewis etc) and start in a size 4 and go up to a 9. They are currently priced at £60.00 which I don't think is too expensive for a pair of leather shoes by Nine West.
For me, despite the little issues I first had with the shoes they are lovely and comfortable to wear as they have a little padding inside the shoe which is a nice touch to a very flat shoe. The embellishment detailing is great to add a bit of glamour to any outfit day or night without being garish. I would just recommend that you look after them well as the leather does seem quite delicate so may be a leather protection spray would be in order.
