Advantages: Nice design, well made, keep feet warm and dry, durable
Disadvantages: none!
In November, the weather in London took a turn and became really miserable and rainy. My Marks and Spencer suede boots were letting in water and even my faithful Barratt's boots weren't doing a job for me. As a northern girl from a small village in Yorkshire among the Pennines you would be forgiven for thinking that I might own a pair of wellies, however you would be mistaken! When it started snowing in December I decided I had to invest in some, and quick!
~ From the office... to Office ~
Two weeks of online shopping and popping into various stores ensued and I honestly found nothing! Well, nothing decent which was under my limit of £25. Until one day on my work lunch break I walked into Office (a semi-expensive shoe shop chain) and was pleasantly surprised to see they had some nice wellies at affordable prices.
The ones I particularly liked were in three different colours; blue, purple and black and priced at £15 - reduced from £30! Apparently they were limited stock and last year's design so the store was selling them off cheap! I liked purple best so tried on my usual size 5 which unfortunately were far too big. I asked to try on the size 4 and after waiting for 5 minutes for the man to come out of the back, he informed me that there was no pair of size 4 wellies available...in any of the colours! I was absolutely gutted, however the manager then went to have a look for me and managed to find a pair in the blue. They fit perfectly so I bought them and went back to the office rather pleased with myself! However, they didn't come in a nice box like most Office shoes. Nope - last year's stock came complete with a rubber band tied round them and in a huge bag because they had run out of the medium sized one!
~ The boots ~
The first thing to say about these boots is that they are blue and shiny! However, they are quite subtle and one-tone or I just wouldn't have bought them. They have a diamond raised pattern on the boot and are well cushioned right the way up the leg which keep your legs nice and toasty but also very comfortable. The foot is quite snug, however I can happily fit a pair of thick welly socks on. They are entirely waterproof and again, the foot is very comfortable. The heel is very thick with excellent grips and it is obvious that the heel will not wear down, especially seeing as they don't even look like they've been worn yet even after days of walking on holiday in the snow and up mountains. I wore them in -6 degrees in Bavarian Germany climbing up a hill to the Neuschwanstein Castle over Christmas and my feet still weren't cold or damp at all after 6 hours out in the freezing cold. The same could not be said for my partner who was wearing a pair of casual trainers - his feet were wet through and freezing but bless him, he didn't complain! I noticed that I was able to walk down the hill faster than most other people too as I felt safe and like I wouldn't slip over. At one point I broke out into a bit of a jog to get back to the bus stop ahead of the rest of the pack who had just finished on our tour!
~ Overall ~
I think these are an excellent pair of wellies taking all things into consideration. They are excellent quality, warm and I paid a great price for them. They are durable and hardwearing but also attractive and they stand out from a lot of other wellington boots. I think they are cool and fun enough to appeal to the younger generation but are suitable for women of any age because they are one colour and go with most clothing which was a worry of mine in looking for wellies!
Weirdly, I've since noticed they have the same wellies in stock this year, priced in-store and on the website at £30 - the full price! I feel I got an absolute bargain but would encourage anyone to buy these anyway as they are super! I don't like to give 5 stars without good reason but these don't have a downside for me!
Summary: An excellent pair of wellies at a bargain price!
