Oxygen Ludlow shoes
Member Name: Mephit
Advantages: good quality, sturdy, hard-wearing
Disadvantages: none really
My love affair with Oxygen shoes continues unabated. When I bought my winter boots from them, I also bought this pair of Mary Jane style flats, as I needed something hard-wearing and comfortable for work.
The 'Ludlow' wasn't my favourite design of their range: I wasn't keen on the strap and buckle across the top, but the online shop had limited stock available. These were the only ones they had in black and in my size at the time. However, I decided I would rather buy from them than look for shoes elsewhere. I know that the shoes they make are good quality and suit my feet, and they were intended for work not going out in.
I was a bit disappointed at not having the choice I wanted, but Oxygen appears to be a small family business that can only keep in small amounts of stock at any one time. Their products are good quality, service is very prompt and has a personal touch, so it balances out, in my view.
The shoes cost £23.99 and I bought them with a pair of boots. Both arrived together, very quickly.
As ever, the quality of the leather and overall build of the shoe is great. The inner sole is moulded cork covered in a thin white suede-type material, and supports the instep beautifully. The shoe was comfortable straight away and I have no qualms about wearing them the whole day.
Unusually the 'Ludlow' doesn't have O2 imprinted at the heel, but the Oxygen name is printed across the inner. The bottom has the same criss-cross design on the sole characteristic of the other shoes in the range. They provide a good grip in all weathers and show little sign of wear since I bought them. The stitching is white on the black shoe, and is firm and well-executed. After several months hard wear, a couple of stitches have frayed a little, but the shoe is unaffected. It responds well to shoe polish and hasn't scuffed. The strap and buckle aren't just for show and can be used to tighten the shoe, if needed.
Although the 'Ludlow' wouldn't have been my first choice, it is a great comfy quality shoe. It is available from the Oxygen shoe website in black or tan. They size their shoes using European measures, but a conversion chart is on the website to help you. The 'Ludlow' comes in at sizes 36 to 41, which is about 3 to 9 UK.
Summary: Good quality shoes
