      Great flat shoes

Oh, how my tastes have changed over the years. From Doc Martens to New Rock boots to ludicrously high heeled confections to nothing but flip-flops. The flip-flop and yoga years, combined with already wide feet have meant there's no going back to pointy-toed precarious foot-wear. Luckily I don't *want* to go back to that, I feel ridiculous in heels these days and what with living rurally & running around with the kids find few occasions demand them. Thus I've been in the market for flats.

When browsing my local Raw shoe shop a couple of years ago, I fell in love with these Mary Jane type flat shoes from Oxygen. Although in the picture it looks round-toed, it is actually slightly assymetric, more foot-shaped: larger at the big toe and curving back to the little toe. The shoe has got an unusual, vintage feel about it.

It has a soft leather upper with 'O2' imprinted at the heel, and is available in apple green, lilac and black. The inside is shaped cork, covered in a thin suede with 'Oxygen' printed on it. This inner is really supportive, especially around the instep: very comfortable. The sole is nice and thick, with wavy grip lines. The strap secures with velcro.

I bought the black version. The shoes were instantly comfortable; they took no wearing in at all. They were perfect for my rather wide, if short feet!

I've had them for a good couple of years now and have worn them virtually daily. They do well in most weather, although in December when I walked a couple of miles in several inches of snow in them, they did turn rather soggy! (It wasn't my intention to walk in snow in them, I should add, just had no choice!) After this hard wear, they are still in pretty good shape: the soles haven't much grip left and the velcro fastening now pops off when I'm going up the stairs (which never used to happen!) but they've been excellent shoes: really good quality and robust. Their exterior looks virtually the same as new. They've been worth every penny.

Although I bought these from Raw, Oxygen have their own website and a presence on Ebay & Amazon. I bought my next pair of Oxygen shoes from their website and they were delivered the next day, so their service is excellent. They currently (16/03/11) have a sale on and Oxygen Warwick shoes are priced at £24.99.
