Peacocks Embroidered Slippers
Advantages: Price, Style, Comfort..
Disadvantages: None whatsoever..
I am a regular shopper in my local 'Peacocks' clothing store, mainly because I absolutely LOVE a bargain, and I find the fashionable range of clothing inside this shop is very affordable indeed. Not only that, but I have had several items of clothing from the shop within the past couple of years or so and I have found it to be of good quality overall, which is not always the case when it comes to a cheaper-end clothing store, in my opinion.
It was around Christmas time when I was visiting the store looking for some small stocking fillers such as patterned socks and accessories, that I saw these little embroidered slippers for sale in the Peacocks store at only £4 a pair. I thought this was a fantastic bargain and I snapped up two pairs of the slippers, one pair for myself and one as a stocking filler for a friend.
The slippers themselves are made of very soft fluffy material, in a lovely pink colour, and have a rounded toe with a pretty little bow detail on top. There is a lovely 'star' detail all over the slippers that is both girly and attractive. I think the overall look of the slippers are really nice and they do look quite modern and stylish, without being overly 'young' and they are not a style that is aimed at the teenage or early 20-something market, in my opinion.
The actual 'style' of the slippers is similar to that of a ballet pump style, although the slippers do have a much flatter sole than an actual shoe, which of course makes them very comfortable to wear around the house, but bear in mind that the thin sole means that your foot does not have the same support as a thicker soled slipper would have. Because of this detail, I know for a fact that my mother - who has arthritis in both of her feet - could not wear these slippers for more than a few minutes, so I think it is worth mentioning this point within this review in case any potential purchasers have similar problems with their feet.
The little slippers are very comfortable. They are flexible enough around my feet thanks to the little bit of 'give' they have in them which is mainly a result of the elastic detail at the end of the slipper. This sits around your heel when you are wearing them. I was slightly dubious about how comfortable a piece of tight elastic would be when worn for prolonged periods of time (I am seldom without my little slippers when at home) however I can happily report that there is no 'digging' into the skin from the elastic that I have found. I would be careful when selecting your size of the slippers though as I do think that if they were tight on your feet, this elastic detail may well be more of a hindrance than a help!
Speaking of sizes, the slippers are available to buy in three sizes: small, medium and large. I personally prefer my slippers to be slightly loose on my feet as I often wear very thick socks when I am at home. (My feet are often freezing and particularly during the winter months I can find it difficult to maintain any decent level of body heat and am usually always cold!) For this reason, I purchased the large size of slippers for my sized 6 feet. I can comfortably wear socks with these Large-sized slippers and have had no problems with doing so.
I have washed these slippers quite a few times and have found that they wash really well. I personally chose to wash them on a slightly cooler-than-usual cycle as I was cautious about them shrinking. I have found that there are no problems with this whatsoever and they are actually a really robust little slipper, for the money that I paid. I have noticed that there is a small frayed part on the slipper, which is probably about an inch in length and is near where my left 'pinkie' toe would be. Considering I have worn these slippers just about every day for the past two months though, and paid under a fiver for them, I won't be deducting any Dooyoo stars or be recommending them any less. It appears to be normal 'wear and tear' and I've actually paid more money for slippers that have lasted less in the past, so no complaints from me about this!
I was lucky enough to have a short break to mainland Spain during January this year. My mother always visits Spain during the winter months, and she advised me to take some slippers with me when I went, as the tiled floors that are in just about every Spanish hotel and apartment can be very cold on your bare (or even socked) feet at night time! I was able to roll these little slippers inside each other, like a little balled-up pair of socks, and they took up hardly any space in my case, so bear this in mind if your teenage daughter is one for staying over with her school friends for example, or like me, if you like to take your slippers with you when you travel, these ones are absolutely ideal due to them being lightweight and not overly bulky in your baggage.
Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with these little slippers and will be looking for another pair for myself when I visit my local Peacocks store this weekend. In actual fact, I have a few family birthdays coming up in March so may well end up buying a pyjama-and-slipper combo for birthday gifts!
I would wholeheartedly recommend these slippers for anyone who can tolerate their slightly thin sole, and think they make a lovely gift as well as a really nice treat for yourself! They are an absolute bargain and I wouldn't be without mine at all! Full marks from me for comfort and design!
Summary: A fantastic little slipper that is both comfortable and affordable!
