“ Brand: River Island / Type: High Heels „
Last year I received Capital Bonds vouchers and until a few months ago I have pretty much forgotten I actually had them until I was reminded by the person who gave me them what I had bought, slightly embarrassing and my response was "I'm waiting to find something extra special". Well my passion for shoes was the deciding factor and obviously Capital Bond vouchers can be spent in certain stores I was quite limited. However, on a trip to Peterborough I had a browse in River Island which is unusual for me but they are one store which accept the vouchers.
I'm not a big fan of River Island as I do think a lot of their clothes are over priced but I do have a few pairs of their shoes and together with my vouchers and some of my own money I came away with two pairs of shoes perfect for the summer and perfect for a few christenings and weddings I have coming up in the spring. One pair I bought are called the Purple Stud Court Shoe.
I opted for the shoes because they do look unusual and I really liked the colour. They come in either black or purple and I opted for the purple which actually is lilac in colour with a pinkish tinge - see picture. I don't have any shoes this colour and for spring and summer these will certainly lighten the wardrobe and add a little pastel colour to an outfit. They are definitely an evening shoe or one you would wear to an event as they are a bit much for general day wear!
The main detailing is the spiky, silver stud details on the round shaped toe, around the straps and just at the back of the shoe. The studs add a bit of rock n roll glamour to the shoes which are otherwise quite plain with this detail. The studs are small in size and give the shoe a decent amount of detail without being over the top. Detailing around the toe of the shoe is very in style at the moment and these shoes incorporate this style. Personally, they could have left the straps around the ankle without the studs.
The shoes have a lovely round toe but I do think these shoes are a little narrow to wear and for those with wide feet these would definitely be uncomfortable. However, saying that they shoes do feel secure around your feet. To keep them a little more secure there are two thin straps which fasten around the ankle by two small silver adjustable buckles. Again, these straps add a little detail apart from the studs. The sides of the shoes do give a little support but they are quite low so not really suitable for those that do require a little extra support around your feet. The lining of the shoe is synthetic and cream in colour which contrasts nicely with the lilac colour of the shoe. There is a little padding in the lining which does provide a little comfort for your feet.
The shoes are made from suede which is soft but rigid enough to keep the shape of the shoe. I've worn mine only a few times now and the leather/ suede has suppled a little but not as much as I would have liked but this is hardly a problem as I know the sides of the shoes won't gape as the leather won't get too soft. Because they are made from suede it is important that you use a suitable suede protector in order that these stay in good condition.
The shoe features a tall, slim stiletto heel at a height of around 10cm which I find quite a standard height for me. I like to feel tall as well as feeling part of the group I'm with and these shoes certainly give me that added height. The heel is teamed with a substantial platform of around 1.5cm, the extra height of the platform does take a little of the height off the heel so they don't actually feel as high when you are wearing them. A stiletto heel does take a lot more pounding than a wedge heel so the heel tip will need to be replaced more frequently but as these are only really an occasion shoe the heel tip should last quite a while.
I've worn my pair several times and although they were quite stiff to begin with they didn't rub my feet and didn't feel uncomfortable which is a plus. They did take a little longer for the suede to soften but they were comfortable right from the first time I wore them but I would like the suede to soften a bit more so they bend and move with my feet when I'm walking. Like most heels my feet to crave my slippers after 6 hours of wearing them non-stop and these are no different but they are not uncomfortable in the slightest. You just have to make sure you don't do the straps up around the ankle too tight as this can restrict your movement. I can't really fault these shoes at all, I love the colour and the design of them which is unusual. They just add a bit more detail to a basic outfit. For the price they are a good buy which I am more than pleased with. If your looking for a spring/ summer shoe with a bit of detail which may cause a talking point (the studs) then these should be considered.
