      Sam Edelman Studded Slippers

I do a lot of walking about during the day and I like to wear flat comfortable shoes. As I'm tall I rarely wear heels because I don't need the extra height, and I save my heels for special occasions. I've also now got to a point where I can't be bothered to wear high heels on nights out and prefer to be wearing a pair of comfy but glam flats so I can stay on the dancefloor all night without ending up with blisters or aching feet. These studded smoking slipper shoes by Sam Edelman are my latest star buy. Just to clarify, they are actual shoes that have a slipper shape to them with the low tongue at the front, and they can be worn outdoors, rather than being ordinary slippers that you would only wear indoors.

Product description: "Black satin smoking slipper with black crystal and stud embellishments to uppers. Sam Edelman slippers have a 1cm tall heel and are designed for outdoor use.
Satin uppers, leather inners, leather soles. The smoking slipper continues its reign this season thanks to its decadent, luxe feel. Effortlessly stylish, this crystal embellished pair will add instant polish to laid-back looks."

These shoes are available in reliable black or a pretty rose gold colour. I opted for black as it's classic and will match with more outfits as the colour is neutral and mixes well with various other pieces. There is a high level of detailing on the shoes so I also thought that the plain black colour would looks more sophisticated and less OTT than a coloured version. The shoes have a simple slipper design which is very trendy right now with high end shoe designers including Louboutin getting in on this quirky style. I can't stretch my budget that far, but after looking around for alternatives I found that the high street knock off versions of the studded slipper shoe all looked very cheap and poorly finished. This Sam Edelmen pair are perfect for what I was looking for, as the price reflects the quality and they don't have the tacky "market stall" look of the cheaper versions.

The slippers are covered in decorative detail all over, with faceted black crystal studs and conical black spikes completely covering every part of the upper material, at the front, sides and back of the shoes. I must admit I was a little surprised when I saw the shoes in real life (after ordering them online) as the edges of the studs catch the light and look quite sparkly as I'm wearing them and moving my feet around. This adds a little extra glitz and also softens what could be a harsh, edgy design to make the shoes surprisingly versatile and wearable. The plain black material gives a good background against the heavy amount of detailing. I think these shoes are really fun and quirky and add a unique twist to what might otherwise be an ordinary outfit. On a night out I will wear these shoes with a cute dress, or a high-waisted skirt and crop-top combo (my favourite going out look!). They are a bit too much for my usual day wear look, although I do sometimes wear them with black skinny jeans and a blazer to work as they fit in quite well with this sort of masculine tailored look.

There is a very small 1cm heel which is barely noticeable and feels just like walking in completely flat shoes, so they are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Like I said earlier, I wear these on nights out and they are great for dancing around in. They also have a cushioned inner sole so they feel really light to wear and it really does feel like wearing a comfortable pair of slippers! A word of warning though, I would highly recommend some "breaking in" time for these shoes as the first time I wore them out for an evening the backs of the shoes really rubbed against my heels and actually rubbed away some of the skin which was very painful! The shoes have a solid construction and hold their shape well so it's worth wearing around the house for a few shorts periods until they've been walked in for a while and move more easily when you step around.

The only real problem I have with these shoes is a question of durability. The sole of the shoe does not look to be very hardwearing and has suffered some heavy scuffing and staining from when I've worn them out, and I do worry that they would not be long lasting if I wanted to wear them out and about more regularly, rather than just occasionally when I'm going on a night out. Because of the delicate nature of the embellishment, I am somewhat nervous about cleaning them and have not yet worked out a way to do this without damaging the shoes. That said, it's only the bottom of the soles that are showing any marks so far. There's also the issue of the shoes being completely inappropriate for English summer weather. I wore these for a family gathering a few weekends ago and got caught in an unexpected downpour which completely drowned my poor shoes and they were awfully uncomfortable to wear when wet as the rain just poured down into my shoes through the open tops and the cushioned inside seemed to soak up the moisture and retain it, leaving me with soggy feet all day.

I purchased these from www.my-wardrobe.com and thoroughly recommend going through their online shop as they have a fantastic range of designer clothes, shoes and accessories, and they value their repeat customers. I shop fairly regularly with my-wardrobe.com and have reaped the benefits of their rewards programme. Not only do they offer reward points which can be exchanged for money off against your next purchase, but if you collect a certain amount of reward points you then receive further privileges such as discount codes, prize draw entry, free shipping and sale previews. The RRP for these shoes is £140.00 but I managed to get them with £29.29 off thanks to one of my discount codes.

Overall, I think these are a wonderfully eccentric pair of shoes. I like how they are a clash between an ordinary slipper, but turned modern by the decoration and styling. Sam Edelman is one of my favourite shoe designers and this is an excellent pair of flat shoes but with a real sense of unique style that can completely transform an outfit. Wearing slippers outside is totally acceptable when they look like this!
