Advantages: Proper shoes
Disadvantages: They are quite addiictive!
I first came across Samuel Windsor shoes when trawlng the net a couple of years ago, as I was dissatisfied with the range in most shops. This is an excellent source of traditional gentlemen's shoes.
They are available in black, and two shades of tan - light and dark. Oxfords, full brogues and half brogues. Lace-ups, sli-ons, boots and slippers.
Each pair of shoes comes boxed, and supplied with a spare pair of laces, shoe horn and a shoe bag. If you don't have specialist shoe storage at home, the bags protect your shoes. They are also good for travel.
Most of the pairs are leather soled, but they have recently introduced a rubber soled pair of Oxfords.
I have eight pairs of these and am pleased with them all. If you know your shoe size, you should find that these shoes fit you well. And if they don't, provided that the shoes are in brand-new condition, then there is a free returns service, with full refund promised.
I tend to buy cheap repair type soles to stick over the leather ones to prevent them wearing out, and also to improve grip in icy conditions. But if yo prefer the feel of leather on the ground, then you can be confident that these shoes are built properly and can be repaired when necessary.
Now the prices.......the list price of a pair of shoes is £99.95, but there always seems to be a good offer on. Usually it is that you get a second pair free. Sometimes it is even better than that - I have bought their shoes at £30, so it is worth being patient. Postage is £4.95, irrespective of how many pairs you buy, or £9.95 if you want them really quickly.
These are lovely shoes.
Samuel Windsor also sells other gentlemen's clothing, such as shirts, ties and cufflinks, but I have not tried them, as they seem a little on the high side for price compared to where I normally go.
Summary: Good quality and value - watch out for extra discounts
