Skechers Shape Ups
Advantages: Improves posture and tones muscles!
Disadvantages: Some styles are ugly!
I have wanted a pair of these for ages, but I was always put off by the look of these shoes, however I recently noticed that Sketchers make other types of footwear with this same technology. I purchased a pair of Sketchers shape up toning trainers for £45 from the Sketchers shop. I have also seen the same style on Amazon.
The trainers I have look like normal trainers, they are a mixture of black leather and material. Rather than being lace ups they have stretch straps made from elastic so you can slide them on and off with ease. When I first looked at them they looked like ordinary trainers, however when you put them on they are built up in the insole which is how they work your muscles.
Skechers market these trainers as having a 'dynamic rolling bottom' and a soft insole and midsole cushioned to reduce the impact of walking on your feet and joints. Because the heel is lower than normal shoes and the bottom of the shoe is curved, your muscles are constantly working to keep you balanced and centered. As a result, they are said to strengthen the legs, buttocks, back and abdomen as you walk, as well as improve posture and promote weight loss.
When I first wore these trainers I felt like I was walking differently, my body seemed to be in a differenct postition to normal, admittedly I do wear a lot of very flat ballet pump type shoes which offer no support to my feet. These however felt really comfortable on my feet and the arches of my feet felt well supported. I wore these on a walk which was mostly on flat ground. I have to say after walking for about 30 minutes at a steady pace I noticed my calf muscles were starting to burn. I never normally feel any effects from walking unless I walk on uneven ground or I have walked a huge distance during a day. At the end of the day I noticed that my legs were aching. I went back to my normal running trainers the next time I had a walk and walked the same path and distance, I didn't notice any aches. I am convinced these trainers work. They are however very hard to run in. I regularly run on a treadmill and occasionally outdoors I couldn't run in these I felt all off balance and worried I was about to fall over. However as a day to day shoe these are great, because I chose a pair that looks more like a shoe I can wear them out and about with jeans and they look like other trainers I have. I haven't noticed any difference in the tone of my muscles but I do swim and go to the gym a lot so I wasn't expecting a miracle but I can feel the difference after wearing these for the day.
I would definately recommend these, they have so many different styles so you are bound to find one that suits you. I would give these 4 out of 5 I will deduct a star as I find these impossible to run in!
Summary: You can feel the burn after a day in these!
